Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think it looks great! Do you work for Shimano? Is that how you get these pre-production pics?

I like the look of the functional carbon on the brifters, no need for a weave.

I can only imagine what little amount the cutout on the chain saves. Oh well, looks sweet!

Also, I thought the handlebar routing was something Shimano said they would never do. I guess that "never" doesn't mean never.

no. I don't work for Shimano but I do sell it. these are from a forum in Australia. This is not the first time I have seen this however. First time I have seen pics available for public viewing. the finish product does look nicer and should be seen at the tour. As goes for Electronic Shimano. Campy I can not speak for however as I have not gotten anything from them.. Well except a Ultra Torque crank with 180mm Arms if anyone is in the market for one let me know .

Doesn't look as elegant -- but these are pre-production items, right?

The question is: How well does it work?

If anyone is watching the Giro d'Italia on Versus right now, they just announced that 14 riders are on the next generation Dura Ace. They didn't show any real close-ups, but it definitely had internal cable routing. The announcers also quoted something like a 1 pound weight savings over the previous generation, but I have no idea how accurate that number is.

I think it will be top notch, but I have a feeling MSRP will be $Too-f'ing-expensive.

Actually looks pretty nice as is. One would expect the production version would look even more refined. The fact that it's not coming out for some time gives me time to justify buying a set ..

Love the idea of the hidden cables, but can't say I'm a fan of the new look. Perhaps I'll be more impressed with the polished/retail version.

Since when aren't the latest top of the line items not expensive? :-/

It's good to see they aren't fully giving up mechanical over electronic.

lots of t.v time for the campy electronic group today as it was on mickael buffaz's (cofidis) time. of course nothing was said of it cause if it ain't shimano or specialized it's off the radar on american t.v.

I used to run Campy Veloce (hidden cable routing, of course). I went to Ultegra a while ago and decided that I didn't really miss the internal cable routing. I kinda like being able to replace the shift cable/housing without unwrapping the tape... 'tis nice. Oh well.

That crank looks like something you'd find on a Cylon spacecraft. Hopefully the finished product will look better.

Chainring looks like sheet.

I'm not inspired to go out and get a new system. What's going to pi$$ me off is when I can't find parts for the 7800 group in a two years.

When will this vaporware be in bicycle shops? You know, where real people buy actual bikes that they later actually ride?

Will 2009 bicycles shipping to dealers in September have these components? Not for nothing, but isn't the strongly rumored pending release of such a major update going to cause potential customers of high end road bikes postpone their purchase? I won't consider a new road bike until I see the new D.A. in person, that's for sure.

Yeah this.

I'm definitely in the market for a new bike/drivetrain right now, but if 7900 is really that good, or the electric group is really great, I don't wanna spend any money right now upgrading anything until I've got some real info on this stuff.

Bah. I've got 9sp bikes and 10sp bikes, and I'm not about to inject a third incompatible format into the mix. I might as well just buy Campy for maximum schwag stupidity.
