Soft food and cycling...
I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled out in a week and a half. For a while I'll be eating only soft food. What do you recommend that can give me some serious protein (meals) and energy (on the road) for biking. To give you an idea of the consistency I need, at first I'll only eat applesauce, yogurt, etc., though it will get better later. Obviously granola bars, nuts, and seeds are out.

Can you eat rice and beans or is that too chewy?

I would get some protein shake type things. I have a mix, comes in packets, from Champion Nutrition. Mixes with water, but you want to have a mini-blender thing else it won't mix.
For energy you can drink Boost or similar. Fridge pack, easy calories, no lactose products.
For meal replacements you can drink Ensure. They are different in that they have other nutrients in it. I can't remember if they have lactose stuff in it.
If milk is okay you can drink SlimFast. They have a protein version and a regular version. Not bad, sweet, melts in cold milk quickly.
You'll want to have chicken soup or something (broth), all the sweetness will drive you crazy.
For various reasons, over an 8 year period, I've had all of the above.

*edit* I forgot baby food. Buy the biggest jars, for the 2 year olds or something. That used to be my cheap pre-race breakfast when I was poor. I'd have 2-3 jars. I'd buy them based on grams of carbs.

Tofu isn't bad for protein if you need something soft. I'd rather drink Hammer Whey with Water than eat tofu, but then again, I'd rather eat Rat Turds than eat tofu.
Perpetuem is a good maltodextrin-based energy powder that mixes well with water. Hammer Whey with vanilla soy milk makes a nice protein/recovery shake, or Recoverite in soymilk.

When I got mine out, I was in no shape to do anything athletic because of the pain and throbbing (not to mention hitting bumps in the road!) until after I could eat a little more normally anyway. Good luck.

Popping prescription pain killers and cycling don't mix well. Maybe take a few days off?
Edit: now I faintly remember eating quite a bit of chocolate pudding.

I feel for you! The had to put me under completely and then break my jaw bone to get my wisdom teeth out. I was purple, swollen, and spitting bone for weeks.
If that's what you're going to go through, you won't be on the bicycle for at least a week after the surgery, but when you do get back on the bicycle again, pick up a 6 pack of Ensure to take along with you. I use Ensure before my rides and any time where I don't feel I can stomach solid food. Great stuff!!
I've also used pita bread with processed cheese on long rides after some dental work.

I had mine pulled with just a bit of Novocaine and was back on real food within 24 hours. With that said, my brother didn't move for a week. It depends on the person, maybe you'll just get lucky like I did.
And my dentist didn't give me any 'real' pain killers, just 800 mg ibuprofen. I didn't have any motivation to stay sick for a while...

Take a couple of days off then start slowly on the bike. All the food suggestions have been covered (I ate mostly protein shakes, soup and pudding/jello). Don't agree to do a telephone interview for a job you really need the day after though. I can tell you that it isn't much fun.

You could go nerd and measure the hardness of food which you want to eat, then compare it against the hardness-to-pain threshold of your teeth and go right at it...
Or you could try these:
Breakfast: Smoothies. Get a blender, and learn the art. You'll love yourself for it later. Scrambled eggs are good, waffles (cut into very small pieces) are good, untoasted bread is good...
Lunch: Rice and beans should be good, if the rice is made right. Salad should be okay, as well as tuna or any other chopped fish or meats. Frozen yogurt, perhaps?
Dinner: Mostly the same as lunch.

Actually, I tried a cup of frozen yogurt the other day from Pinkberry (mostly Asian yogurt place in downtown NYC; it's crack for Asian women for some reason). VERY good stuff, and much healthier than ice cream (I believe it's non-fat, probably high-ish in sugar, but low everywhere else).
