Any tandem pictures from Interbike?

The only one I could find on Flickr, not a tandem or is it?

Doesn't anyone care about us anymore?

I'd love to see video of that thing being mounted and ridden by 10 adults... as it appears to be more of a marketing exercise vs. a ridable design.

Looks like a triple with seven extra mid-sections.

No issues with cable stretch there

Are you implying that Santana is using this as a marketing gimmick and not as a marketable gimmick!

Looks like a couple of cables are routed under the boom tube. The top tube braze ons are probably for a rear rim brake (which does not appear to be on the bike).

Will these guys ever find someone that can weld their tubes together? The close up really shows the poor quality of their welding team. After spending all that money for a Santana, I would be ashamed to seen on one.

Santana must not be too busy if they have to time to to build a 'tenobike'.

Au Contraire...

Pet projects and exotic 'toys' like the ten-seater are usually the by-product of a flush order book, a stable workforce, lots of capital, and the confident flair of a showman.

Heck, I woudn't be surprised if Bill didn't have his crew build two Cabrio-3's and a Cabrio-4 to come up with the show piece so that it can be returned to the product pool / revenue stream once the show is over... that is assuming a client didn't commission the bike for some other purpose.

Again, it doesn't appear to be designed to actually carry 10 adults; however, it looks like a great attention getter, conversation piece, and clearly conveys one of the most attractive aspects of tandems and tandeming: they're fun!

Say, what happened to McCready's idea of building Santana tandems in China, 2 Interbikes ago? He was then claiming he did not have enough production space in his CA factory.
While the Ten-o-tandem is an attention getter it does take away time from regular production . . . my thinking is that the had the spare time to mess around with that; if he was behind in production that 10-seater likely would not have materialized.
While Cabrio3 and 4 sections could be joined it would not be a well thought out set-up for a ten-o-tandem. Would love to see the fork of that ten-seater and have them do one of their famous 'braking tests'! Showmanship/flair . . . from Mr. Bill???
Just our thoughts . .

Noting the multible stands supporting this rig confirms that to me. I don't think it would be very strong in the middle section to carry even 10 of the lightest riders. Now what about tires and wheels.

i talked to someone at the santana booth, he told me that the 10 seater (declet?) was a triplet with a bunch more sections thrown in and that they have not tried to ride it. he also said that their best selling model last year was the carbon and titanium beyond tandem

Looks like some crappy welds. Unfortunately, i have noticed allot of sub-par stuff coming from Tana. I guess you can't accuse them of misrepresenting their products.

It was with tongue in cheek that I mentioned wanting to see a video of the bike being ridden, as the frame's tubing, rear triangle and front fork clearly aren't even the same ones they have used in the past on their quads and quints, i.e., usually a dual-crown rigid fork is what you'll see along with a massive boom tube, and very long internal tubes that brace multiple seat tubes.

Anyway, it was still a great visual exercise and I'm sure they had a LOT of traffic at their booth because of it... and after all, isn't that the point at Interbike? Find a way to stand out from the crowd?

One more picture from Interbike. Apparently there was either very few if any tandems there or no one really cares.

Remember, less than one out of every thousand bicycle sold is a tandem so if 23,000 peeps attended Interbike that would mean 23 were REALLY interested in tandems. As tandem enthusiasts we sometimes forget just how small our segment of the market is and, if you're into off-road tandems or recumbent tandems.... well, your interests almost invisible.

You can also find a few other photos of the Santana-10 if you look real hard along with a photo of Kid'z tandems from the outside demo days.

RTR magazine will eventually publish Interbike photos of the tandem & recumbent stuff in an issue later this year along with a run down on what they saw, and Jack Goertz will put his observations in a future edition of the TCA's Doubletalk newsletter/travelog.

Yes I realize we are a niche market, but in retrospect so is all high end cycling, when you realize that of the majority of bikes sold in the world today come from big box stores and not your local bike shops. Wal-Mart is the world’s biggest single seller of bikes selling eight million a year.

Edited, because the photographer apparently couldn't figure out how to set the date and time on his camera.

Well, that and Co-Motion most certainly didn't introduce a belt drive in 2007 and the photo gallery I provided a link to at Flickr clearly titled the photo collection - Interbike 2008 (Set)

However, for the really observant and geeky, I would note based on the branding decals that the Macchiato is wearing a set of Rolfs produced at least two model years back ('06 or earlier), which is interesting given that the tandem on the opposite side of the display wall is wearing a set of the '08 Rolfs with the wider brake track clearly in evidence.

We have attended Interbike since the 1980s both as dealer and media reporters . . . yes tandems are a bit scarce, but you have to wander all of the nearly one million sq. ft. of Interbike for 3 days as not all tandems will be at a branded booth. Some smaller tandem builders will often share a booth due to costs. Found the first Calfee tandem frameset half hidden under Craig's display table years ago; the Uber Tandem in the Kenda tire booth, the Zona tandem on a rack display and one year found Bil McC walking around with a tandem frameset over his shoulder plus one tandem at the Titus display and no real 'tana booth that year! C'dale and Seven did not show tandems for a while and Trek declined to display anything (they hold their own dealer show). Bike Friday folks have never displayed.
Some of the China folks have a twicer hidden among other bikes (like Micarga). One year found a full ti-tandem at an Italian booth. Yup, really have to keep your eyes wide open for those elusive l-o-n-g bikes!
After 20 years, decided to skip a few Interbikes!
Pedal on TWOgether!

Nothing wacky about it... It's a great system that works well for many teams.

You can find a technical description and a statement of benefits at their Website: https://www.davincitandems.com/dv2.html

Although their ICS can also be configured as a fixed drive by swapping out the single speed/ BMX freewheels for fixed cogs, last time I asked no one had ever come back and requested the change once they became familiar with how the ICS worked.

Even 1 out of 5 dentists prefers something other than Trident:

Our Guarantee - If you do not feel the independent coasting is the best thing you have ever experienced on a tandem, we will lock it out. You will still get all the other benefits of the Independent Drive - wider range of gears, improved front shifting, and higher ground clearance, and you can switch it back in the future.

To date, we have had one customer take us up on this offer.
