Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

carbon brake pads

I bought some carbon wheels that I used for cross this fall, and I will probably change the tires and use them for some road racing this summer. So, on my cross bike I only really rode it with race wheels and hence didn't worry too much about the pads. However, now I am thinking about racing on the road, and was wondering if people typically change out their pads every time they race or do you just train on brake pads for carbon rims?

I use swiss stop yellow canti studs on my cross bike. The compound holds up well enough on alu rims for training?

Yes. I use them on my aluminum rims for everyday riding, and I don't change pads for my carbon race wheels although I do clean them first, and sometimes I sand off the top layer. I have 16,000 miles on two sets of pads.
