I had a close call the other day that my wife witnessed. I was coming home from my folks house and she was coming from the store. She just happened to be a hundred yards behind me with the kids and my brother in law when a guy ran a stop sign and I went to the pavement avoiding him. She was pretty freaked. So I ordered an id bracelet from www.roadid.com to help her feel more comfortable. Just curious if anyone else wears one or something like it.

I started wearing mine shortly before I was hit by a car last March. I was in shock and having issues giving my personal information to the paramedic. While I calmed down and started gathering my wits about me I gave it to them to write down my information.
However, the main advantage is the piece of mind it gives my wife.

If you are not carrying ID they are a very good idea.

Same here and personally I think the MedicAlert ID's are more readily recognizeable by EMT's and hospital staff. Hope the need never arises for anyone here.

It's peace of mind for some regardless, and you can't put a price tag on that.

I won't leave the house on my bike without wearing mine. I have a huge fear of something happening and my family not knowing where I am.

I never ride without mine. Many times I ride with my wallet in my pannier which would be left at a crash site or with the cops, not the paramedics, if something were to happen. It may not be much but at least it is some identification with contact info, and it is absolutely better than not having any ID on you.

When I took my first aid class last year, the EMT who taught the class explained that they don't look in your wallet as they're treating you: "You take his wallet, I'll take his watch." It just doesn't look good; they let the police do that when they arrive. They will look for "ICE" on your cell phone, but I generally have my cell phone in my bags, not my person.

I immediately picked up a RoadID and leave it in my helmet so I don't forget to put it on. I chose the ankle strap. It has a side benefit in the winter: I wear it on my left ankle and put a blinkie facing to the rear when I ride at night; it gives a characteristic up-and-down motion which, in addition to my other rear facing lights, helps identify me as a cyclist.

I've even picked up a second one and leave it in my running shoes, because--I've subsequently realized--I carry even less identification when I'm running than when I'm biking.

I keep a Jimi wallet with me that has my contact info, cash and a message that I have no known allergies. I do like the Road ID and have ordered a couple of FireFly lights from them.

+1 here. I have a medical condition that, in the event I require emergency surgery and cannot communicate beforehand, could cause serious problems, including death. MedicAlert doesn't charge too much for their service (I believe it's $50/year) and you can include all sorts of personal information in their system, such as multiple emergency contacts, blood type, insurance info, etc. Personally, I think that even if you don't have any serious medical problems, MedicAlert is a good idea. As someone mentioned, MedicAlert is universally recognized by EMTs, so I think it stands out more than a RoadID.

I wear a road ID dog tag. Honestly, if I were doing it again, I'd just buy cheap-ass dogtags online. You can get them for about 5 bucks. Sure, the Road IDs look real pretty, with their acid-etched letters on shiny tags, but for functionality I bet a regular old stamped dog tag works even better.

I can't stand wearing bracelets, and the shoe thing didn't seem smart to me since even in car accidents I've seen shoes come off, and on a bike where your shoe is actually attached to the pedal, it seemed like the shoe could easily go flying off into the brush.

In my case it's just ID; the medical info is that there is no medical info; no meds, no allergies, no issues of any kind. But it does have my blood type, though I doubt they'd trust it anyway; in emergencies I'd guess they use O-, in non-emergencies they'd have a chance to type me anyway.
