Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nashbar Reduced Radius Rollers - anyone have them?

I'm wondering if anyone has the Nashbar Reduced Radius Rollers? I'm about to pull the trigger on them but wanted to see if anyone had any experience with them?

I've just committed myself to ride in the Pan Mass Challenge this year so need a bad weather riding solution, any advice is as always greatly appreciated!

With that price, plus the extra 20% discount...how could you go wrong?

I would have them right now but USPS is full of POS. I ordered them two weeks ago. They arrived at my local USPS last friday. They haven't delivered them to me yet because it wasn't priority shipping, and therefore the delivery person would need to go on overtime to have time to deliver my package after they deliver the priority packages. They still don't know when I'll get the package. Freaking ridiculous.

I moved across the country and Fedex lost the package with my old rollers. Now I have to deal with this crap through USPS?

To me, small packages work best USPS v. standard UPS or FedEx ground. Larger packages, you definitely want one of the delivery companies (our new FedEx driver actually knocks on the door, doesn't just leave the slip). Since we don't have a car, picking up large objects is not trivial - and usually the reason I ordered online instead of getting from the LBS.

I've tried. They won't get them for me because there are thousands of packages and they don't want to look through them all just for mine. I have to wait for them to try and deliver it to my apartment. Of course I won't be home when they do so, and therefore I need to go to their warehouse the next day.

I'm sorry my package wasn't send priority, USPS. I guess you're right. That means it doesn't deserve to be delivered.

Sucks about your delivery issues. I just ordered them yesterday. The 20% discount knocked the price down to about $80, but shipping brought it right back up.

Seems like the major difference between these and other similar rollers is that these don't look like they fold up.

I ordered mine on Friday and you're right, they ship by standard USPS mail, so you don't get a tracking number, just a delivery window of 7 - 10 business days.

I'll be back when they arrive, along with a review, and the obligatory "here's me falling off my rollers on my first attempt" video.

I'm about to pull the trigger on Performance's Travel Trac Pro rollers. With today's coupon they're $10 cheaper than nashbar's - $109.99 plus with my Performance Club membership it's supposed to be a free upgrade to 2 day UPS so maybe I won't have to deal with the USPS crap that some of you have talked about.

Edit: $137.98 including 2 day UPS shipping.

Mine arrived on Tuesday, 4 days after ordering, I paid for ground shipping and they came via FedEx rather than USPS.

I'm really pleased with them so far, I just posted a review here.

dmb2786 - how do you find the resistance on the rollers? I sweat buckets on mine, but I'm not sure I'm working my legs very hard...

I figured I'd search and bump up this old thread rather than beginning a new one. How noisy are these things? I'm interested in them but was wondering about what it'd be like with these + a fan + the tv running while I'm mashing. Any input appreciated...

I've used mine a lot. They are plenty quiet enough to watch TV with, but be warned that the resistance is pretty weak, you won't really be "mashing" on them. If I was to do this over again I would probably go the trainer route, the rollers are good for working on form, but not so much for strength.

Let me know if you have other questions on these.

Bringing this post back from the dead...wintertime here in the North East so I'm breaking these rollers out again, reluctantly. Does anyone use a resistance unit with the Nashbar rollers? I never feel like I work hard enough on the rollers. Any tips?

Someone here had a few posts about how they measured their power output on rollers using a Powertap. Some of the tires they tested had surprisingly high numbers.
You can also reduced the pressure in your tire tires to increase drag.

There are some little dynamometers available that others have posted about I cant recall the names of who makes them.
