Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Vertical dropouts on your bike? How will you adjust the chain tension?

i hate to tell you, the reason you only have a front brake with fixed gear bikes is that you use your legs as the rear brake. On your bike (unless you loctite fixed that freewheel), you should probably install the rear brake, there is a difference between fixed gear (which your dont have) and a single speed (which you do have).

p.s. your bike is way, way better, that murray is a p.o.s.. And i think you should keep it geared, bikes (in my opinion) look janky with the chain cut short and stuck on one gear when all the other gears are still there, but looks classy with original parts. and at least take the dork disc off!

ok, sorry for the rant, I like the paint color!

i had some guy friends in high school who built their first cars together in one of them's garage, they bought all the stuff to fix up their POS cars and worked and then had them painted all cool but didnt race them thankfully.

they ended up moving in together and they are going to get married soon since you can do that now, love in the oil pan

It wouldn't be a bad idea to get some tools and learn about your bike by taking it apart completely(forks,BB).That way you can service your headset and BB while you're at it.Old grease=non working bearing=messed up cups/races.

haha thanks you said it for me!

uhh we kinda catch the gay thing a lot...little backstory...I moved to Jacksonville for school from home, which is 5 hours away, and he followed me out to go to a local college. haha totally not gay right?

Truth is were both new to the city and have no friends at all so I dont think theres anything gay about trying to keep ourselves busy and not just sitting around bored.

Neither one of us are trying to ride the bikes like they are we just put them back together while we wait for parts so we dont have parts laying around and crap. As the parts come we will put them on.

Thanks for the feedback

Looks cool! (Good job on not painting the headset and what not.) You definitely got the much nicer of the two. I assume you're planning on making yours a SS with a chaintensioner because of the vertical dropouts, no? If thats the case, you will definitely want to put that rear brake back on.

lol

you can check the "magic gearing calculator" thing and may not have to get one of those.

Your brake will perform better and your bars will be more comfy if you run the brake cable outside of the tape. You're kinda mixing an aero lever setup with non-aero levers.

Have fun, and ignore the haters!

Srsly- how are you going to tension your chain once you get a proper "fixed" rear wheel?
