Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Roadie the book

Has anyone else read this book and thought it was really not funny and badly written almost dumb? I had heard so much how I had to read this book why? It said nothing that anyone who rides does not already know, what's up with this American style of writing where they always seem to try and sell you on something. Man if you loved this book you really need to get a life.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Even if it's wrong.

You must not have written the author's description, which was posted here last year. Its main intention is to explain things to the friends and family of cyclists. Of course we want to screen all propaganda before distributing it to our loved ones, so we read it first.

I don't know about you, but I read it to confirm that I'm not completely insane.

I have barely cracked it open, but my goal is to have my wife read it so that she might understand my "insanity". Since then, I have stopped racing and started to focus on long distance. So now she is relieved that I don't feel the need to try to beat everyone else, but also annoyed that I now feel the need to be on my bike for the better part of the day.

+1. I wish I could brush my teeth with those.

One thing I don't get; you're from Vermont and you want Carvel? What happened to Vermont's only pride; Ben and Jerry?

Ditto - my wife is halfway through it and keeps saying "Now I understand why you [insert roadie quirk]"

You've gotten MUCH farther than I have. My copy has been sitting on her nightstand for the better part of 6 months and hasn't even been opened, and she reads all the time...
