Need New Chain: KMC X10SL or SRAM PC-1090
Hi:
I need to replace my existing sram pc1070 chain. I'd like to replace it with something better. What are the opinions out there regarding the KMC X10SL or SRAM PC-1090 chains?

KMC first, Shimano second and SRAM a very distant third. Primarily 'cause it's the noisiest of the bunch.

Broke mine. Overall, I'd pick another 1070 over the X10 SL. The 1090 and 1090R don't offer much extra over a 1070 (hollow pins, and hollow pins + slotted outer plates, respectively) so unless your inner weight weenie demands sacrifice...

Any chain can break. People have broken SRAM, Shimano, Campy, whatever. Improper installation, manufacturing defects, wear, whatever. Crap breaks, the KMC is still a better chain than SRAM.

This is a serious question? Seriously? I thought everyone know SRAM chains were crap and that you should go with a KMC or Shimano chain (I lean towards KMC).

I'm far from expert, but I haven't heard a single positive word about SRAM chains.

I wouldn't say thet are CRAP, but they are certainly noisy and don't last as long compared to KMC...

That said, I don't know what model kmc 10sp it was, perhaps a better one will be entirely different.

As one of the replies said, all chains break. My personal experience: I've had a Shimano 9-sp chain (came with my Ultegra group) break. Never had a SRAM 8- or 9-sp chain break. Currently using a KMC 10-sp chain: too few miles to comment on reliability. It replaced a worn Campagnolo 10-sp chain.

Try a Campy Veloce chains for $30. It will outlast KMC, SRAM or Shimano.
