Rocky Mountain Giro road bike with lugs, full Campy

This is a bike I found in a pretty neglected state but everything works and all it needs is a bit of a shine-up and it should be fine. it is far too small for me but I was thinking that the parts might look nice on my Ciocc so I bought it. I guess this is more of a "What the heck did I just buy?" thread rather than an appraisal thread.

I am not sure what Campy group is on the bike, hopefully someone can tell me, it is 12 speeds and I think that there is only index shfiting. The stem and bars are Cinelli and the wheels are Mavic GP4 tubular rims laced to Campy hubs, again, I don't know what hubs, they just have the shield logo on them.

The lugs remind me a lot of my old Marinoni, did Rocky Mountain contract out some of their frames to Marinoni?

There is a name on the top tube, Derek Bailey.

The model is actually a Team Giro.

The saddle is what caught my eye, it is a nice old Turbo. The seatpost is a Campy aero post and it is 27.2mm. The tubing decal just says Columbus.

Thanks for any input guys/gals!

Group is Victory, right? Not top of the line, and therefore unappreciated in terms of aesthetics, IMO. I've seen very nice builds with Victory, and have the levers on one of my most ridden bikes. Who knows how it works, mechanically, being from that transition era with Campy all confused about where to go.

Looks like a hanger for a # on the TopTube...

Maybe someone raced this, after all it is a "team" bicycle?

Number hanger? do you mean the black plastic clamp on the TT? that is a Zefal pump peg

great looking bike, I always liked those Victory cranks. personally I am not of fan of taking bikes like that apart, and I am not a big fan of 'flipping bikes just for pure profit. however this may be a case that calls for cleaning and flipping it to some one who would love to have a Rocky Mountain (not me) road bike. I would clean it up and shop it around. while you might not make a pile of cash you mioght make someones day.

Derek Bailey was the frame builder for Rocky Mountain. His signature plus the decals, put this frame 1984-1987, which would jive with the Campagnolo Victory group. It's Columbus SL tubing.

Thanks gang, very insightful as usual

T-Mar, how can you be sure it is SL tubing?

I don't think I will switch the parts over to my Ciocc after all but I think I will keep the Turbo

Neglected? It looks like you have a mint frame and components under that dust , look at those hoods ! Nice find, never seen a RM road bike this old in Québec.

since the thread is well over a year and half old I am not suprised you can't see any pics. I suspect Jet took down the pics or the link after the bike sold.
