First Century!!!18.1 MPH AVG!

Tour de Cure Lake Nona (Orlando), FL

Garmin Link

It was 10-20 MPH winds, high 30's low 40's to start the ride!! IT WAS COLD!

18 mph avg? Were you riding in a group? That's a pretty good avg!

At first we were in a big group maybe the first 20 Miles. Then it was just 3-6 of us the rest of the way.

Congratulations.

For what it's worth, I've done several centuries now, but have never averaged that fast on ANY looped ride of any length.

Congrats! What a great cause for a bike ride

18mph! YIKES even when I had my road bike I couldnt keep that up for more than a few miles...of course flat land around here is like finding water in the desert...

I would love to do a century...somewhere flat.

Yeah East Orlando is as flat as it can be!! Well like i said i definitely didn't do it alone!! I owe a lot to my team members but I will say that i felt great and pulled about 75% of the time. I feel great today other than my left knee is a little achy. I might ask my doctor about it.

You may need to start posting in the racing thread.

Well done sir, well done. I'd have to say that is an excellent time for the 1st century.

Just remember, a flat course isn't always the easiest.
On a flat course you are always working -- no chance to rest/coast down any hills!!!

Nice going! It's been a long time since I've kept up that sort of speed for a full century, even on the flatter courses around here.

Good for you! I had the same feeling when I did my first century as well (similar average speed).

Is the graph different from your posted time? The graph registers over 6:06, maybe close to 6:30? Is that ride time vs total time? I don't use a Garmin, just wondering why the graph is different.

Correct. The Garmin will pause on stopping. So it doesn't count the 3 rest stops i took. About 5-15 minutes each.

Awesome job man. Great pics as well, looks like all had a good time out there.

What were you thoughts going into to this 1st Century of yours, did you feel like it was going to be as tough or as easy as it was ? Got my 1st one coming up in Oct and hope I do it without crapping out HAHA.

At that speed you could have taken one long nap before I crossed the finish line, lol. Congrats!

Oh thanks!I rode with a guy that said Garmins never stop, so his average was always 3 mph lower than ours at the end of a ride. Never had a Garmin but I told him he must have some sort of setting to stop the accumulation of time at stops. I don't think he knew what he was doing though! I'm sure he measured the drive home too.

Yeah there is a setting that you can pause recording by current speed. I have mine set to only pause at 0MPH.

O and buy a Garmin!!

Well i knew that if i could do 60 or 80 i could do a hundred. So I was confident on finishing. Umm on the easy factor i can say that at about 90+ miles it was an emotional game for me. 5.5 hours on a bike is a long time!! I cannot stress enough how important eating every 45 minutes and drinking constantly helps with fatigue, cramps, and motivation. But i guess in the long run i was easier to do the ride than thinking about it!
