Bar ends, any one use them on their hybrid bikes?
I'm getting a 2009 Jamis Coda Comp which has Ritchey Comp 5D bend, 580mm flat handlebars and WTB Street Smart grips. I'm thinking that I will eventually add bar ends to help when out of the saddle and to change hand positions. Anyone use bar ends on their hybrids? If so why did you get them, how do they work for you and any suggestions on what kind I should use and how are they installed over the equipment I have? Thanks for your replies.

Bar ends are a necessity for me since my 2006 Sirrus LTD hybrid has no front suspension. Just having my hands flat on the bars all the time really beats up on my wrists. With the bar ends, I can side-grip the handlebars which seems to make going over rough surfaces easier on my wrists. Helps with hill climbs too coming off the saddle.
The bar ends simply clamp onto the ends of the straight handlebar. My bar ends are shorty carbon-fiber.

It was easy to do. Took me all of half an hour.

I use my bar-end all the time when standing up for climbing the steep hills.
I've got Ritchey pro long bar-ends like this:
They are very comfy and the bended shape at the end keeps your hands from sliding off.

AdelaaR, I can't seem to find those particular bar ends anywhere. Do you have a model number?
Also, what kind of aero bars are those? Profile Jammer GT?

indeed. the giant rapid series (i have the 3) comes with short bar ends. i use them quite a bit as an alternate hand position. i'm thinking of picking up longer curved ones in future...

Same for this guy here---I, too, have the Rapid 3 and I use the bar ends for an alternative hand position.

Heck, I bet both Ritchie and Profile source them from the same OEM and just put their own logos on it.
These guys have them too: https://www.amazon.com/Power-Tools-Ba...952212&sr=1-93

Profile Designs has identical bar ends to those Ritchies: https://www.amazon.com/Profile-Design...7952000&sr=1-2

I just had a set put on at the LBS. If you buy them there they install them free. Took the kid about 10 minutes.
I wanted some alternative hand positions too. Plus my lower back starts to ache and these alow me to occasionally sit up straight and stretch it a bit.

Currently, I have stock grips on FX 7.3, and Mirrycle Mirror. Want to modify setup to include bar ends & keep mirror. Thinking of going with the Ergon GP1's slightly moved in on the bar to allow for Bontrager Bar Ends which will allow me to keep mirror with configuration.
Any drawbacks to proposed configuration...are grips moved further inside uncomfortable or awkward feeling?

I didn't notice that much difference with the grips moved in. But I didn't use them that much anyway. I usually ride with my hands draped open over the trigger shifter covers.

Do you have picture of setup?

Here's my 2010 Sirrus Sport. I'm currently using the stock grips and bar ends, with my MIRRYCLE Mountain Mirror inserted in one of the ends. The mirror sticks out slightly because the mirror post is just a hair thick for the tapered inner diameter of the Sirrus handle bar, but it works just fine.
I'm heavily considering changing out the stock grips and bar ends for Ergon GP1's and Profile Design Boxer Mountain Bike Bar Ends.

I had some bar end grips on one of my hybrids, but they went unused about 99 percent of the time. I just could not get comfortable having one or both of my hands that far away from the brake lever, since the same percentage of time on the bike was working urban traffic.

Just got some Specialized Overendz P2 (https://www.specialized.com/es/en/bc/...jsp?spid=47424) bar ends. I see them as a very good addition to an hybrid bike due to the lack of multiple hand positions on flat handlebars.

Probably not what most think of when bar ends are mentioned but I have these drop bar ends. Not sure what to put on them right now, a rubber grip or bar tape.
