Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Now if a car passes you too closely it will take a picture of his license plate, call up his mother, and tell her what an evil little boy she raised. I like it.

They must be serious about it. In the patent application, power is listed twice:

...Riding characteristic can include at least one of speed, distance, time, altitude, elevation, incline, decline, heart rate, power, derailleur setting, cadence, wind speed, path completed, expected future path, heart rate, power, and pace...
And it looks like we should expect our computer displays to be very different shortly...

Alternatively, display 130 can include a movable display or a projecting system for providing a display of content on a surface remote from bicycle 110, such as a video projector, head-up display, or three-dimensional (e.g., holographic) display...
One cool feature is that you'll be able to see the telemetry of other cyclists in your group. So you not only get your own info, but you can see the following for other cyclists in your group...

...providing cycling information to the users of a plurality of bicycles riding in a group, the electronic device associated with a first bicycle, comprising control circuitry operative to:detect a plurality of electronic devices, each associated with one of the plurality of bicycles;determine at least one riding characteristic of the first bicycle, wherein the riding characteristic comprises at least one of speed, distance, time, altitude, elevation, incline, decline...
I for one have always wondered how fast the guys I'm been riding with are going and what their elevation is...

And with no buttons to push, the sweat and lube that transfer from your fingers to the screen can easily be removed.

This already exists:
https://www.newpotatotech.com/LiveRid...fications.html

It measures Wattage as well.

Even if its wattage measurements are not very accurate, $99 beats 1k everytime. Only a true professional would ever need more precision.

Agreed as long as the inaccuracy isn't something ridiculous like 15-20%
.

Or mount it on the opposite side of the handlebars and use your other hand. Or buy a $30 rubber band.

Don't even try to tell me you're not pining for the heads-up display on a faired recumbent.

My favorite is the projector part, because, you know, I want to be the guy who carries the screen.

That's nothing. I'm waiting for it to wirelessly tap into the other rider's Di2 and upshift his gears as it detects you're about to drop the hammer.

i don't see how it measures wattage unless it's taking some guess based on weight and speed. if thats the case, 1k beats 99 because the $99 product is worthless.

It leverages the power of the network -- it checks to see what numbers are being tossed around on BF and then adds or subtracts a percentage that you specify

Closed source == issues with capability with other devices, requirement to lisc from Apple, just small cost issue

Battery life, seriously I need to charge my damn iphone twice a day, my old HTC I charged every couple of days. Not that finding a USB port or outlet is a problem. However on a bike ride, it would be a serious f'n issue.

No because Garmin seems to do everything most people need and then some for a fair price.

only one number matters: power. all of the other numbers are just for bragging rights at BF or the bike shop. So it behooves the manufacturer to get power right.

ps...I guess cardiac patients should track their heart rates as well.

If these are anything like their computers...overpriced and overhyped...I'll pass. No thanks. Won't give Steve jobs any of my money if I can help it.
