My crap phone is unable to load the main page because there is too much stuff going on from having to list ALL the threads (runs out of memory), but I've always been fine on my broadband connection with a computer.

Get an upgraded (paid) membership. It'll work better, faster and eliminate a lot of ad clutter.

IE binds up my machine on BF and some other sites. Firefox works fast. ditch IE. I would never have thought i would do so but I haven't looked back. BF is the worst of all web sites I visit, for what it's worth.

See how much bandwidth your connection has
https://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
This will largely determine the speed at witch the site loads.

I believe it's due to how busy the servers that host these ads are. I sit and wait and wait for the ads, and once those come up the actual site loads up right away. Now that I installed an ad-blocker, the pages load much faster.
