Howdy and welcome to the forums.
There was just a thread in the Texas subforum about Houston routes (maybe it was yours, come to think of it!)

Howdy, from Bellaire! Welcome to the area! Bellaire used to be six miles from Houston, but then Houston grew to surround the little three-city cluster of Bellaire, West University Place, and Southside Place. I think Houston is about to annex Connecticut!
If you are new to this part of Texas, keep in mind that folks really are friendlier around here than in some other parts of the USA. Ordering food in restaurants is facilitated by knowing Spanish. Ethnic food is one of Houston's best-kept secrets; this area is truly wonderful for ethnic foods from many nations.
Your chosen neighborhood is really quite nice. There were some trouble spots quite near your home a mere few years ago, including a whole large apartment complex off Woodhead on Portsmouth, where the police only entered with force of numbers, but the recent real estate boom really changed things. One remnant of the bad is Didy's Sports Bar at the southwest corner of Richmond Avenue at Greenbriar. Don't go there to watch a game!
If you have any questions, I can answer in this post or via PM. I have worked in the Montrose since 1984, lived off Westheimer near St. Anne's Church from 1998-2001, and now live in Bellaire, a mere few miles to your southwest.
