What are your goals for 2011?

I was reading drmweaver's plans for 2012. I have some of the same interests and goals.

In the past I've completed my annual goals;

2009 was to bicycle 5000 miles
2010 was to train for and complete the 150k Dairyland Dare with about 10,000 ft of climbing.

I'll need to formulate my goals for 2011, and will do!

What about you, Plans for 2011?

I've been worrying bout this. Last year I had well defined goals and actually hit them.
This coming year they are less defined. I've signed up for 2 week-long tours and have loose plans to ride in Vancouver BC and perhaps the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes bike path.

Maybe that's enough.

But I have no huge ride goals. I know I don't want to do 5 doubles again.

AAArrrgggg.

To not do any doubles, and to have fun on the bike.

I've never ridden a double century. I've never ridden the huge Seattle-to-Portland ride (205 miles, 10,000 cyclists), because it seems so crowded.

Put the 2 together, and you get a goal I've been thinking about: a solo double-century, Seattle to Portland.

This is not yet the official goal. Thinking about it.

Same unfulfilled goals I have every year: climb as well as the best climber in our group and ride as fast as the fastest guy in our group.

On goal for the new year that I might make: Hike the Grand Canyon with my son.

I've always wanted to ride STP in one 205 mile day, but my wife likes for us to stop in Vader (125 mi.) then ride the 80 into Portland on Sunday.

However, if you're worried about the crowds, don't be. Starting early will put you ahead of 6,000 or so cyclists, then hammer the first 25 mi. or so and the road gets pretty deserted. Almost no one at the checkpoints, etc.

It's quite good actually. One year my wife wanted me to reserve us a certain place at the camp/Church in Vader, so I hammered the first 25 mi. and was up with all the 1-day riders (pretty much). I was the 3rd rider into Vader (of the ones spending the night there), and there were NO crowds.

So just remember: Start Early (5:00AM), and hammer the first 25 before backing down to your all day pace. Then no worries!

I guess I'll go out on a limb and commit.

1. Ride 7,500 mi
2. Ride a century a month.
3. Do 8 charity rides.
4. Do 32.5 on a sprint
5. Get down to 170 lbs.

I think that's enough. 2 and 5 will be the hardest.

My goal for 2011 is to ride 1 mile more than I did on 2010. This has been my one goal each year, one more mile than last year.

The same mileage as 2010, 5k, but I want to do more long leasure rides. I usually ride with roadie friends who want to push as fast as possible. They just want to get it done.

I still plan to ride with them but also do solo rides where I set off in the morning with no particular distance in mind but ride all day stopping for lunch and snacks and photos. Basically day touring. I may bring food and do a picnic, brew some coffee, take a nap, or whatever. Just have fun riding.

I ride to work 3 times a week and do a long ride on the weekends plus do 4 centuries a year, my goal is to keep doing that. I turn 60 next year, I think I can get in the same amount of miles as I did at 59 (do I have to change forums when I hit 60 in May?).

One thing for sure every year I enjoy riding my bike the more I ride it. My goal is to keep riding every year that I am healthy (realistically that should be for another 15 years at least).

If I had more time I'd ride more. I think we all would.

Ride 8-10 100km-100mi organized rides on the tandem. Break 16 mph moving average on a century (on the tandem). Loose 15 lbs. Climb Henry Coe (10 mi., 3000'+) non-stop on the tandem. Ride one solo century just for grins.

Get into a gym 3-4 times/week to improve overall fitness and cycling strength.

I plan on riding again with Allegheny Jet and Kerlenbach, but this time crushing their souls on the climbs.

Then it's off to New York to play second base for the Yankees.

Next up...at 5'6'' I'll play center for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Finally, I'll become an Astronaut.

Yeah that's the ticket.

That's what makes this country great. In America you achieve anything you aspire to!

My goals are ill-formed at present but right now I would say they include another 5000 miles total, completing Cycle Montana in June and finding more interesting places to ride locally. Oh, getting below 200 pounds would be great too.

One of my goals to to relocate to Portland, OR and this might happen.

However, If I'm in Chicago next year...

• I’ll complete three events known collectively as the Horribly Insane Dare.

Horribly Hilly Hundreds: https://www.horriblyhilly.com/course.html
The 100K ride is challenging enough for May with 5,700 feet of elevation gain over 67.1 miles.

Insane Terrain Challenge: https://www.vikingbikingclub.com/insa...rain/about.htm
Provides 12,400 ft of climbing over 121 miles. This event is in June.

Dairyland Dare: https://www.dairylanddare.com/routes.html
50, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300k distances. The 200k provides 13,547 ft of climbing in August.

• I’ll ride 4000 miles for the year

• I’ll complete my first multiday tour with 200+ miles over 3 days or more.

• Complete one event a month with the Great Lakes Randonneurs from April to July.

• Complete the Bike Psycho Century 200k in August

• Race CX in the Fall

2011 goals...2011 events...2010 accomplishments... I feel like I am reporting to the board of directors of my old company.

Goals for 2011.
  1. Increase threshold power 10%
  2. Decrease my 2K pursuit time below 2:43, decrease 500 meter time below 40 seconds and decrease my flying 200 meter time below 13 seconds (35 mph average over 200 meters)
  3. Rent a locker at LA Velodrome and store two track bikes for occasional racing and training.
  4. Significantly improve my back and lower core strength.
  5. Improve aero position on my time trial and track bike.
  6. Keep the rubber side down.

I did not remember any climbs in Ohio. Soul crushing on the rollers perhaps.

BTW, I think the center position on the Cavs is available and considering their performance against the Heat, you will be an upside to their starting team.

Haven't found anything yet for 2011. I usually find something that will scare me into being honest with my training. In the past it's been double centuries, a death ride, riding fixed gear on challenging centuries. Even ran a marathon a few years back..

Kind of lost this year - looking for something new...
