Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Under $50 stem

Looking to replace my stem, any suggestions for under $50? Looking for something +-4-7 degrees and matte black, about 90-110mm.

You need to narrow that down. 10mm makes a big difference in fit.

Browse jensonusa.com as they have good deals on stems, and +1 for the Ritchey Pro. I got one cheap and it looks nice, is reasonably light, and works fine.

The 3T one is nicer but of course pricier.

Keep Ritchey Pro on the short list.

Most important is fit, as above 90-110 is a fairly wide range you sure you know your fit???

I just flipped the stem and surprisingly it looks OK. Maybe I'll just keep this one.

Yes. I've gotten my last 3 or 4 on eBay. I was going to recommend the 3ttt 4GXL but I think it only comes in a 17 degree.

It's a bit more than the OP wants to spend (by a few bux) but, have you seen this FSA stem? Alum alloy with carbon faceplate. I think it's sexy.

Now it's in the same position as my other bike.

I really like the 3T ARX Pro https://www.amazon.com/3T-ARX-Road-Bi.../dp/B001KWP3BS

The matte black with the white stripe would fit really good with my bike's paint scheme.

Bought one of the 90mm carbon stems from China for very little money. It's your call if you trust a no name stem from China or not, and I'm not here to debate that. I can only say it seems well made, and I've had no issues with it.

I just got a killer Origin 8 stem for less than $15 shipped from Icycles (eBay). Depends on your clamp size as well.

Those carbon ones are only like 20-30 grams lighter than the metal ones. Generic Chinese stuff scares me.

Went ahead and bought this. I figure for $12 + $5 shipping if I don't like it it's no big loss.
