Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Less expensive carbon fiber water bottle cages?

Anyone have any recommendations for carbon fiber water bottle cages that are less than $45? My LBS only has $45, $50, and $60 carbon fiber water bottle cages and $6.95 alloy cages. I'd like to budget something in the range of $25 or so, but I haven't seen anything at that price point. Anyone have any suggestions? Preferred colors would be black or white.

I bought a pair of Bell carbon cages from WalMart for around $8 each about a year ago. If you want something fancier looking, or a knock-off of one of those $60 cages, look at eBay.... there's a ton on there.

I tried looking on eBay- I did a search for carbon cage or carbon fiber cage, or carbon fiber water bottle, etc, but no luck. Suggested search terms?

I just bought two Bell cages at my local wally world for just under $7. They were on clearance. Not that I wanted carbon cages, it was the cheapest they had.

Remember ebay is localized.
https://shop.ebay.ca/?_from=R40&_trks...All-Categories for ebay.ca

https://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trk...All-Categories for plain old U S of A

if you can narrow it down to a part number or specific item name that's better and be sure to check the "Include Description" checkbox.

For anyone that doesn't know, another trick is if you want to capture things like 'fiber' versus 'fibre' don't forget you can do fib*.

There's a whole section just for bottles and cages. Sporting Goods > Outdoor Sports > Cycling > Accessories > Water Bottles & Cages. Navigate your way there, then just search for 'carbon'.

Arundel makes a nylon-reinforced plastic version of it's Dave-O called the Sport Bottle Cage. Looks the same as a CF Dave-O, only 20 grams heavier, but cost only ~$15.

My Arundel sports just showed up yesterday. I think it was like $16 each after shipping. They hold my Cambelbak Stadium Chill bottles nice and tight and look pretty nice on my bike.

I'm not a racer, but I can't see these weighing me down at all compared to their carbon counterparts.

I got a couple of them off ebay for around $22, shipping included.
There was a thread about this with links to ebay, not long ago.

This is the answer you seek. Black plastic. As long as the bottle doesn't fall out, you win.

I don't understand cf bottle cages at all. The plastic are much more durable & cheap, and if you get black, no one will be able to tell the difference.

Zipp Carbon Cage - 25 grams - $59.95 on Excelsports
Velocity Plastic Cage - 29 grams - $7.91 on Amazon

The weight saving is about the mass of one nickel. The monetary savings is literally more than a thousand times that.

Are any of the carbon cages strong enough to hold larger water bottles? For daily riding over a period of years?

I've had the same plastic cages on my bike for more than 25,000 miles and they still work perfectly.

I don't get it either. I didn't even KNOW there were carbon cages until I grabbed those Bell jobbies. And at the time I thought they were just some cheap lightweight plastic until I noticed the carbon 'weave' on my way to checkout. Oh well.

If it breaks I have this old Giant branded ABS cage that's probably. . . 20 years old.

I bought two cf bottle cages on eBay for something like $24 a few months ago. It came from China and took about 2 1/2 weeks to arrive. The best part is that it doesn't have a name brand plastered all over it. It's just a plain cf bottle cage and I couldn't be happier.

I like the rib cages. I've raced on courses so bumpy people were losing bar plugs, breaking saddles, and loosening bars/levers, but I didn't lose bottles out of my rib cages.

They're also light as mentioned before, and cost about $20.

They don't have a faux carbon finish though.

From my post here.

I got black cages for my black bike, but I've removed them since I'm experimenting with using CamelBaks instead.

I have these and they work very well, bottles go in and out easily but are held reliably.

Note. The recess for the mounting screw head isn't deep so you need to use button-head or truss-head screws. Regular socket-cap screws will interfere with the bottles.

I've got a couple of those. The Camelback bottles are way too tight in them though.
