are Swobo bikes good?

or is it just a brand name on a typical Taiwanese frame?

You know the vast majority of frames come from Taiwan right? Factories in that country produce frames for almost all the major brands, including thier high end offerings. I can't speak to the quality of Swobo bikes, but I bet they do come from Taiwan.

I do know this and I also know that Swobo's bikes are from Taiwan. I was just wondering if it's worth the extra premium on their name.

Not if you care about the name. Personally, I'd be more concerned with what parts were on the bike than what brand name was on the frame. That said, you do need to be more concerned about quality control when you buy from a lesser-known brand or a volume dealer like BD, but a good bike's a good bike, regardless of where it came from.

Sorry if I sounded snarky, I've encountered alot of folks who make sweeping generalizations about the quality of products based on their country of origin that aren't really fair.

I bought a Sanchez for my daughter. I have not built it yet (hiding it in boxes for birthday). I'd be happy to give feedback/pics when I build it if you want.

the sanchez is flash galvanized, which is pretty great because it's rust proofed on the finish.

the dixon is also supposedly great. i haven't ever heard of anyone not liking a swobo that they've bought.

basically, they do things a little different and they make great city cruiser/gnarly fun shredding bikes. they're also priced pretty reasonably. the cross bike is a little overpriced in my opinion, but it's also a nice bike. i wouldn't call them great and i wouldn't call them a value, but they have a unique style that is well worth their reasonable prices if you like and enjoy their bikes.

looks sort of raw, sort of like galvanized conduit.
They also have the sanchez in a light blue color too.

Keep an eye on chainlove and/or bonktown.
They run a deal for 30min and then go to the next deal.
They were offering it for $369 last night.
It's been popping up a lot, I just can't remember which site -doh!-

Use their alerts/and or plugins to keep an eye on the deals.

The Swobo Novak and Crosby as well as the Charge Plug Freestyler have
all been offered this past week/ month.

I read the new swobos are painted with paint that looks like galvanized. The one I got for my kid is blue anyway (painted).

"Galvanized-like paint finish."

just as good.

i like the sanchez a lot. it's a better bike than a madison i think.

the madison is REALLY just a name brand on a taiwanese frame.

the sanchez was designed by a small company.

Quick fact: The Swobo Sanchez and modern Bianchi Pista were designed by the same person

Sky Yaeger..... she designed for bianchi and swobo; past tense because she left swobo aswell.
Hint at the "100% chick designed decal" found on later year pista concepts; close to the BB shell.
