Doing my part to help the economy by spending my tax return on...
a 2011 Surly Cross Check, Robin's Egg Blue, with SKS fenders. I'm fairly certain that I am not alone in my altruism. C'mon people! Join me in helping the economy by taking that check to the bank and taking yourself to the bike shop. Who's with me?

I'm with you! I will be buying my mother a 2011 Specialized Sirrus and myself a 2011 Redline 925 in the next two months! I already have a 2004 Giant Sedona
and I could never imagine getting rid of that bike but I am very excited about my new bike... so is my mother!

That's what I'm talking about! It's Americans like us who will get this economy back on track. I thought about getting a Redline commuter bike, but opted for the Surly. C'mon America, get out there and spend that tax return! It's for a great cause!

Both are great bikes! I will end up purchasing a Cross Check in the future... as well as many other bikes to come!

I should clarify though. I'm not really spending my tax refund. I'm spending some overtime money, and the eventual money from selling my 7.3 FX.

I did a little side work and cashed in my change jar, I only came up $22 short for my new 2010 Marin San Rafael in Ocean Blue, it's due on Wednesday-----thank you very much!
I've got new set Bicycle Planet fenders I'd bought 2 years back for the trash rescue bike that's being passed on.
I just got a wired bike computer last Friday. Very exciting.

I bought a 1999 Kona Muni Mula from a local shop today, but after reading this thread I feel like it's my civic responsibility to upgrade the fork or something.

MTBerJim, I believe Obama is offering $$$ as a stimulus to those of us a little short on bike funds. Just give 'im a call. Wouldn't that be a great way to break America's dependence on oil - instead of cash for clunckers, cash for gas. Then, at the end of a year's work of commuting, we'd just mail in our odometers and get $$ per mile.

I'm pretty sure that 'stimulus for cyclists' was a tongue-in-cheek comment...

I technically spent my state tax refund on a bike pannier backpack. But in all honesty, I owe about the same amount in Federal taxes so I didn't really spend any money I received in taxes

The owner of the shop, Eric Tonkin, has the distinction of having had a bike named for him (Kona ***** Tonk).
Also, I can't believe nobody has observed yet that this thread needs pictures.
Those of you with bikes on the way need to post 'em when you get 'em.

I just ordered a VO model 5 saddle since my Brooks was stolen a while back. Hopefully I will get it in about a week.

I also got a Part Tool PCS-10 repair stand last week. Just got a chance to put it together and it's great. Put my mountain bike in it and it seemed rock solid. I did have to run to the hardware store for one lock nut, which sucked, but it wasn't far.
Now I just ordered this truing stand to attach to it. I have a wheel that is slightly out of true (untrue?) on another MTB that I'm selling, and I can't wait to try it out.

That's awesome. Sounds like a sweet rig. I would love to see pictures. I have been planning my next commuter for a while now and really like the Surly's. Duh! Still having a hard time deciding between the CC and LHT. Is the CC good for longer commutes (20 miles + one way)? Enjoy.

Congrats OP on the new Robin's Egg Blue Cross Check, that color looks so great in person.
