Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wish they had this on Cape Cod; much cheaper than the rental shops.

I think these are neat ideas and I think we'll end up with a system here in Vancouver too, as soon as they get rid of that silly helmet law.

But I have to wonder at the people who would rather pedal around an ill-fitting cruiser/hybrid than just spend a few hundred bucks on craigslist and buy themselves a bike.

I guess you don't have to worry about getting it stolen.

They wouldn't rent anything you'd ride.

I remember a town that was doing this years ago..... They actually spray painted the entire bike, (tires and all), in a really ugly yellow like a school bus or a bulldozer so the bikes would be easily identified @ local drop-off/pick-up locations.
The only real issue was the maintenance; they were all a piece of junk.

Several of which are one word posts or back to back posts instead of a simple edit to add that extra word or sentence.

You keep messing with that edit and you'll never make it past 100.

I thought this was in Seattle? I could be horribly mistaken, but I thought I remember their bike sharing program had some ugly yellow bikes

It's a great idea for urban commuting, the problem they've experienced in Europe is theft and vandalism. Trying to secure bikes here in NYC on this kind of scale would be interesting.

I was in DC last week and saw these bikes everywhere. I can't recall the specifics of them but they were all over the place.

They are getting a ton of use, especially now that the weather is nice. My favorite so far was seeing the guy riding against traffic at dusk talking on his cell phone. Most people seem to ride safely though.
