Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Completed my first half century!

Hi all I just got into cycling a couple months ago and today I completed my first half century today. Longest bike ride i've done yet, by 20 miles! Just thought I'd share with you all.

Congratulations! It's like a drug. Next you will want to do a metric century, then a full century, then a double, until non-cyclists in your life think you're nuts (and they'd be right).

Congrats, I am really close to that mark, hopefully this weekend. Did you have to stop at all or how many times? I did 42 and stopped twice, that is probably why I didn't get a cookie.

At the top of a long hill at mile 25, I had an energy gel. Then I was feeling low on energy at mile 41. It was at mile 46 when i basically bonked. I just climbed a really really steep hill, you know, the one that robs your momentum? And i was real deep in the red zone. At the top took a gel and some peanut butter sandwich and water and was well on my ride home. Moral of the story: EAT! Also my bud has some minor sore/rash, but that will go away in about a day.
