Female Pro Racing?

So, I caught this photo at the UPCC in Denver:

female bikers.jpg

I'm pretty sure that's Elia Viviani, who was getting all the attention. Then I hear a guy say, "Forget him, can I get a photo with just the girls??" Which got me thinking, "Forget all these dudes, where's all the female pro cycling races??" Hot, fit women decked out in spandex/lycra. OMFG...

Yeah, I can't figure it out either. Women's tennis: check. Women's golf: check. Oh, yeah. My favorite: Beach Volley Ball. Oh, hell yeah. check, check, check.

Maybe it's because sport cycling in general is so heavily male dominated. I don't know. There are a few women that are outstanding riders. There aren't many female auto racers either but when they race they race with the boys and look good doing it.

Pro women anything is nearly impossible without Pro Men leagues propping them up. Tennis being one big acception to that rule.

Spectators and TV viewing ratings are almost non existent. Pro cycling is already niche sport with limited viewrs and fans a pro womens circuit is bound to be go BK before long.

If there happened to be a female cyclist that looked like a supermodel and could actually win races, I do think the female side of the sport would get a big boost. You often see this in tennis where the more attractive women tend to have bigger fan-bases.

I put in a legitimate effort just now to check in on Liz Hatch's palmares and couldn't figure out if she has ever won a race.

The picture above not withstanding, cycling is not a sport that they can flaunt the sexual angle DURING the actual cycling. Let's face it, women in spandex crouched on bikes going by do not look much different than men in spandex(with pony tails) crouched on bikes going by. The only reason we notice the picture above is because she is airing out the puppies tucked in her jersey.

Now if they started racing in thongs and pasties, then the popularity would skyrocket!

I don't get it. Why are the guy's eyes whited out?" It looks like they've got devil eye rays or something crazy.

Probably because they did not sign a release allowing their likeness to be used on television/web/print.

There would have to be some new rules for womens cycling: must use the drops 100% of the time, and must wear outfits like that even if there is increased drag.

Those would be good rules too.

That would be the first time on bikeforums that someone actually whited out the eyes before putting up a picture. So are we required to have signed released before posting pictures up on bikeforums now?

I'm as hormonal as a teenager but it would be nice to see the ladies race purely to see the competition.

Muscular women are HOT.

And, yes, it would be great to see women's racing gain more visibility. I had the privilege of riding once alone with one of the best female amateur racers in the U.S. mid-atlantic region. She was ferocious on the descents--killer instinct for sure.
