Do you judge people by their components (be honest)

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Do you judge people by their components (be honest)

Just curious...and for a bit of fun, I wanted to get some opinions. If someone showed up to your group ride for the first time (say he was a friend of a friend) do you think his components would make a difference in him getting accepted. Would people assume he was a good rider if he had dura ace di2 and a newb if he had say tiagra.

I don't understand how you guys see what components other people are using. I either pass or get passed very quickly. And in a paceline I can only read their brakes when I'm not avoiding potholes or suffering.

Equipment makes no difference, but how you can use it does.

No, I don't judge anyone... Well, one caveat.

I don't even look at the components on someone's bike. The only way to judge a cyclist is by whether they are ahead of me or behind me

I sure do!

She's got to be somewhere between 5'2 and 5'7. I would prefer that she have high cheek bones and dark brown eyes. I'd love for her to have straight black hair and some skin tone would be nice too. If she were somewhere between the skin tone of Thalia and Beyonse, that would be nice. Of course, her measurements would have to be approximately 38-24- 36. The middle measurement is the most important one, though. She would also have to have a lively personality and a really good sense of humor. It would also help,if she were slightly submissive. I don't want her in my face unless it's that special time ( you know what I mean). OTOH- I don't want her at my feet waiting for permission to go to the mall or hang out with friends or something. That would just get on my nerves! She would have to be very loyal or else she would cause me to do life in prison.

She would have to keep my ten commandments:

1) I will serve you whenever you want to be served.

2) I will allow you do whatever you please as long as it pleases me as well.

3) You will spend no more than 10% of my monthly salary every week as you wish.

4) You will give me a massage at least once every week.

5) We must bicycle together for at least 50 miles per week.

6) We will do something wild and crazy at least twice a week.

7) We will do something wild and crazy in a wild and crazy place at least once a week.

8) You have to let me cook for you at least once a week.

9) We must wash the clothes or do the laundry together on Sunday morning as we drink Tequila and dance to Santana.

10) We must always remember that we are promised to one another and that our personal vows to one another supercedes any other earthly rule or law.

So you see, there are many components by which to judge!

- Slim

PS.

Of course, nobody gives a damn what you ride on your damned bike, as long as you can ride your damned bike!

No. But I will judge another rider on whether he/she can hold their lines. That matters a lot more IMO.

Hmm, you came in here because you feel this way don't you? Were you hoping for some kindred spirit that share your views, perhaps? You asked to be honest but you failed to put your own views on your first post!

I've looked at guys on Veloce builds and 105 builds that could put the hammer on me, and I've watched guys on Di2 bikes huff and puff to keep up.

Judging by component groups is a relatively ******** thing to do.

I judge their bank account by their components. I judge their riding ability by riding with them.

Would the people who own these bikes be welcomed at a group ride?

I can & do make certain judgements when I see a dude out on his aero tri bike.
I can & do make certain judgements when I see a dude on an 80's steel bike.
Other than that who cares.
