Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

For all the BF Bashers who continue to post here...

When I used to be on other cycling forums,
if I ever had to confirm some cycling related information with a Google Search,
BikeForums would always be the source of the answer.
It would always come out on top of the suggestions.
So, I thought, why not just go to the source.

If you're not happy here, quit "femaledogging" about being here...stop posting.

Yes.
Among all the BS (which is most of the time entertaining) I still find here bits of useful info.
Here is something to ponder...

if it weren't for femaledogging, what would BF be? Ok, that's mostly the 41.

True.

I find it odd that some characters here just complain, complain, complain and keep posting in the same thread they are complaining about. Again, its' like the joke where the man goes to a doctor's office and tells him 'doctor, it hurts when I do this', then hits himself in the head and the doctor tells him 'then don't do that'. It's not like anyone his having a gun held to their head forcing them to post here.

If you (not you specifically unterhausen) don't like it, gtfo.

I rather like BF. There's a lot to be said for a forum that allows all types of opinions...even my hypocritical opinion in my wanting to not hear what complainers have to say in a complaint thread.

It sounds so much better in Spanish:
"El que no le guste, que se valla par carajo cono puneta!"

I hang out at Weight Weenies a lot too. It's way more civil and intelligent but also a little more boring.

I spent a little of my BF sabbatical there.
I'd say they definitely focus more on informing than flaming.
And yes...it's no where near as entertaining as BF...

I noticed the same thing. I would post questions here, road bike review, mtbr, and singletracks and usually (actually probably always) the most participation and quality of responses was here. There are always a percentage of infantile responses (including some of my own) but it's usually small, usually overwhelmed by better responses, and probably just someone having a bad day or bored at the office. But there are definitely some quality members here that have helped me jump start my new hobby immensely, and tolerated a bunch of my newbie questions politely.

People just find commonality in complaining. Who DOESN'T go to a water cooler to ***** about their job??

(btw, my favorite threads to showcase the BF...do you need a helmet?...is steel better than carbon?...why not buy from BikesDirect?...should i stop at all red lights?.. !!

I must confess there are tidbits of cycling wisdom and knowledge here on BF, but they are floating around in a massive Ocean of White Noise within a Sea of Stupid. I try to contribute to both. The white noise is more fun. Stupid is generally fun. Hence the real value of this place.
