Vintage Campagnolo Cables and Housing

So I'm just finishing up a restoration of a 1964/65 Cinelli (here is the original link: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...y-this-Cinelli!). Everything is together now, except for cables and housing.

Where can I go about locating some cabling for this bike? I've scoured ebay and can't find much other than the current campy cables. The original brake housing was grey with a textured look to it, and used the fat cables (I think its 1.8 brake and 1.7 derailleur, but could be wrong). I'm not set on keeping it grey or using those old wide cables, but want to stay away from just throwing cheap Jagwire stuff on there.

Any idea where I can look to find something sufficient? Anybody out there have something they are willing to sell?

Thanks!

What lengths in grey do you need? I have some used OE Campy pieces in the parts box.

Hmm, not too sure actually. I ditched the old housing because it was so ratty so can't measure that... It needs to extend from the brake lever to the rear brake, I'm thinking about 5-6 feet? And probably a foot and a half for the front.

Alan,

The grey housings do come up on ebay now and again. Usually from the Nuovo Record era so not quite period correct, but close enough perhaps. I bought a set of two rear housings a while back from an ebay seller and I can look it up. The 1.8 mm cables themselves , with the old <c> stamp on the head, are more difficult to find. I can't promise anything but let me look through my stuff. I may be able to help you out, if Miamijim doesn't find it. For that bike, it would make me happy if I could somehow assist in its completion. I'll PM you.

Campagnolo shift cables will show up from time to time, they have the c in a diamond impressed into the end of the cable.
Campagnolo shift cable housing did not turn up till 1968 at the earliest.
They are the starters of the 1.8 mm cable.
I would look for old Universal housing.
Dark silver grey most often.
I have had to seek old stock in half dead bike shops for suitable stuff.

Haha I know, but you probably would have tossed it if you saw it too. It was cracked, flaking, and broken in pieces. So the original owner wrapped the entire length of it in electrical tape. And that happened probably 30 years ago!

We're almost there! Just needs pedals rebuilt, straps, and cables/housing.

Yeah, I figured as much, but you shoulda measured them first No big deal. In a used set you'll just have to figure if the rear was ever cut to a smaller frame, and a new/old set just cut to length.

Oh yeah. Universal housings would be the ticket, but old Campy might suffice, or be as close as you're going to get. Old grey Universal housing may be very difficult to find.

I found the textured cable housing they make for Vespas are pretty much exactly what you want. I bought it from this guy, https://www.ebay.it/itm/ws/eBayISAPI....m=190509304470 . Or, if you don't like that guy, just do a search on guaina grigia.

Here it is on my bike,
