Eisentraut Fixed Gear

I picked this vintage 80's Eisentraut frame up in Oakland about 13 years ago for about 100 bucks. I immediately turned it into a fixed gear and it has been my primary riding companion since. It's a little banged up but it still has a ride as smooth as butter.

You should grind off all the unnecessary bosses.

Obviously the grinding comment is not to be taken literally. That is a great frame you have there, thanks for sharing. Welcome to the forum too.

I don't see a problem with it being fixed gear, you ride it and it doesn't hurt anything. Plus, you have front and back brakes.

Quite unusual for an Eisentraut. Could we see some close-ups?

I'd love to see more pics, too. I'd rather it be a SS that is loved (and not drewed, though that is redundant) than a neglected 10-/12-/etc.-speed

Very nice find! Too bad about all the paint chips, but that's fixable.

That frame is WAY to nice for daily transportation. I suggest building it up (with gears ) and transfer the fixie parts to a frame of more suitable pedigree. That way you can enjoy the frame at it's best, as a nice fast good weather racer.

I'm not only saying this out of a kind of snobbery against fixies or their riders (I'm a college student with retro glasses and a brakeless fixie myself, so yeah, some people could label me as a hipster), but also from a pratical point of view: the tubi g this bicycle is made of isn't made for standing outside in the rain or for contact with locks, femces and poles. In this way you can ruin the bike very quickly.

I've seen King Corn, which may be what he is referring to. Pretty interesting.

I'm kinda bummed. I made my old 3 speed into a fixy and it didn't have anything to grind off.
Looks like a fun bike.

Very nice. Could you also show the bottom bracket area and the seat lug?
