I am still trying to figure out how to run the rear brake cable and deal with the rust. I am thinking a nice powdercoat but that might lead to cantilever mounts and other goodies. The sad part is that I was very close to cutting up the Schwinn for this and I am glad I didnt and it can go to a new home now.

I have only ridden around the block a couple of times but it has a very different feel to it and sound due to the fatties. Its gonna be a great bike once all the bugs get worked out.

Rust. I just didnt bother even routing it until I figure out a cable stop for the rear. I think I found the solution, I just need to figure out where he got it at.

Nice. Is that a Trek614, and did it start with 27" wheels? I've been wanting to build up a 650B but have only 27" wheel frames.

looks interesting. personally I would just use some emery cloth or steelwool to clean the rust, then clear nailpolish or a close match with model paint or colored nailpolish.

if you like the finished bike then start agonizing over paint or powder and cantilever bosses, cable hangers, rack eyelets, extra bottle mounts......

That wouldn't be the case with the first stop that illwafer mentioned. They're nice to have in the parts box.

The seatpost collar is threaded on one side and uses a recessed bolt. It might work with a new bolt though. I think Im just gonna get some Tektros.

Tires are Riv "Fatty Rumplins" they are marked 41mm or so as the size. Clearance is not as bad as it looks in the pic.

What wheels are those?

(Edit: ...beyond the obvious "650b" answer.)

They are the "Handspun" wheels sold by QBP. I think there Velocitys with LX hubs.

Very cool looking bike. The 650bs definitely gives it a different look. Why is that? I think it might just be the size of the tires...

Now you need a nice Nitto stem and a small Japanese bell for the stem.

The center pull brakes are also great looking.

Did you shove a 135mm OLD hub in there?
