Hi there,

I bought a cargo trike from craigslist in Boston, the previous owner brought it over from Holland where he bought it about 6 years ago. The rear tire seems to be a 23x2.0 its starting to perish and I want to locate one as a spare, I have looked on Google and I haven't found anything. Has anyone heard of this size? I think that the brand is "swallow" and it also says "moped" on the side, but the moped shop I called in Boston assured me that 17" was the largest size available....

Thanks any input would be great, I don't mind ordering and waiting from Europe if I have too, I use this to haul the kids most days so really would like a spare laying around

See if they have an ISO size printed anywhere on it, like 40-559 or 80-507 (something like that). It will give you the correct size. Inch sizes can be confusing, as there's no standard, only common usage.

From some googling, I think you're looking for 19" solex tires.

I found these, but you should check they are compatible with your rim. Google "Wired on tyre"

Thanks guys those 19" solex look about right, might have to get the old man to send some over. I'll have a lok today for an ISO number as well and report back!

Upon further reading, I noticed that they mention diameter of 597. I think, this is the rim diameter. Harris Cyclery does one in that size, but only 1 3/8"

I also think that it is for clincher rims, and that your rim is likely straight sided, designed for the "wired on tyre" I read somewhere along the way that these are a pig to fit.

Do not take any of my theorizing for fact. Please check things for yourself. Would like to know the outcome of this puzzle.

First one looks like a hit! Suggest you call Schwalbe, they are very helpful people.

If this doesn't pan out, you could always rebuild the wheel with a good, strong, 559 rim. ( Standard 26" MTB tire size )

Yes, it seems almost certain that the OP's wheel is intended to be for a moped. I would like to see a picture of the inside of the wheel rim.

I'm back! sorry its been a mad glorious winter here in Bean town so lots of riding and not worrying about the bike... must fix that spoke as well! I also contacted de fietsfabriek (https://www.defietsfabriek.nl/) via facebook and was told I should call and they would help me out, even with my lack of language skill! I looked for an ISO number but couldn't find one (sorry funkystickman) pic of the rim required? I'm interested in figuring out the wire-on bead sort of thing, the only thing I am concerned about is trashing the tire as I remove it with out having a spare

I'm about 95% certain that either of the tires, Conti or Schwalbe that were suggested will work. Can you tell if it takes a tube? That might give you problems as well, but you can always patch the one in there. if it were me, and that tire looks similar tread etc, I'd just order the Schwalbe. $30 seems reasonable.

does say Moped on the tire the Moped shop does not have diverse parts sources
I expect.. just can go to the people that sell them their stock.
