Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2013 Red Today

I was at my LBS today when the Sram rep. walked in pulling this stubby gun case and asked if we would like to see his new toys. I'm a Shimano guy, but after seeing and handling this group makes me want to try it out. This stuff is very light and well built and the rep. said they shaved a half pound off from the 2012 group. Out of all of it the brakes really stood out with the lightness and design...

Well done Sram....Nice Gear...

I just built a 6-series Madone with a mix of '11 Force and Red. It comes in at 14.6 lbs, and that's with 1550g wheels. How much lighter do we need groupsets to get?

The '13 Red looks nice, but not significanly nicer than the stuff it'll replace. I'd be more worried about actual function. At least it's not 11-speed (yet).

Damn, that's quite an accomplishment. I have the 2012 group and it is pretty damned light. I wish I could have it now.

Im not sure how looking at individual bike parts from a box tells you whether or not sram did a good job with this stuff. I think you actually need to ride it to be able to tell.

did you tell him you'd wait about a year until the price came down, and then buy it on ebay?

I don't care for how those new hoods look. I much prefer the old/current ones; very simple and comfortable, and not like they belong on a Kawaski Ninja.

Why did you build your bike with all that light stuff if weight doesn't matter to you?

You might prefer the new ones once you actually try it.

If the stuff needs all that padding is it really going to hold up?

Seriously though, looks sweet. Bet I have no hope of affording an upgrade.

Why would you say that? I ride 10spd too, I am just wondering. I figure if I'm going to spend that kind of money it just as well be 11speed. campy has been there a long time and shimano is on the way.

Everything in that set is insanely light. They had it out at SRAM World Headquarters, it's really impressive in a first hand experience.

I can't wait to try it. Love the current one but it is noisy and that front derailleur needs to be replaced.

Nice stuff. First thing I would do is sand off the logos. The ones on the shifters are ridiculous.

Significantly lighter and from all reports better functioning. All good, but I agree it's a bit too highly styled for my taste. Don't particularly care for the black swoopy features on the big ring, the black inset with "RED" on the brake calipers, bit logos on the levers...but I want it anyway.
