next project 83 torpado super strada

I was just given an 83 torpado super strada (year and model based on some searching...other input??)

original specs https://www.equusbicycle.com/bike/tor...obrochure2.pdf

bike is campy record derailers and shifters. campy tipo hubs, abrosia rims, regina 6 speed freewheel, ofmega crank, universal 77 brakes, 3ttt stem and bar, columbus allelle R db tubing.

It is in rough shape having been out side in rain and sun for at least as year.

I was looking for a frame for a simple single speed, but that will not happen, I'm keeping the campy. I have vision and will share when done....

the first task is removing every thing and unsticking the seat post.

Next big decision will be to clean rust as best I can and wax or strip and repaint

nice frame details

nice pantographing

I have owned fifteen Torpado bicycles, ranging from a sixties something Torpado Luxe Ten Speed, a lovely all chrome five speed and my early eighties Torpado Super Racing. The Old School rides are nice but nothing compared to the ride quality of my Torpado SR...

My bet is that you will really like your Super Strada. Nice find and good luck with the build.

Looks like a daunting task but I am sure you come out with something beatiful.

I am thinking full strip and paint......or powder coat

and as I can never keep a secret the vision is "fast, simple, super light utility" keep the campy shifters, something like a north road bar on it, simple small basket in front, no fenders, no rear rack, just very barebones. we will see as I get the parts off and look closer.

If the bike were mine, I would make it road worthy and then get to know it. By making it road worthy, I mean full dis-assembly, complete mechanical rebuild/refurbishment and then ride it for a month or two. You might be surprised how well it will clean up, but the pictures could be throwing me off on that call.

Anyway, the mechanical build and extended test riding has become the way I do all of the bikes that I think I might like to keep for a while. If I decide to do a full resto later, so be it. And, I am still trying to decide on my Legnano - pretty nice all over, but with a cosmetically challenged top tube, to say the least.

Either way, I too, would like to see pictures of the results.
