86 Schwinn Peleton build stuff.

I have been stripping paint off my 86 Schwinn Peleton and gathering parts.
So far I have a Sram Rival crank set with GXP bb and a set of Sram Rival calipers. I also bought a set of DT Swiss Axes 2.0 wheels. The front is a 24 spoke radial and the rear is a 28 spoke radial/cross 2 lacing. I put Continental foldable 25mm Gatorskins on the wheels.Ive tried the front wheel on my 85 peleton and like the way it rides.
Next I think I will buy a cassette and see if the Suntour Superbe Pro friction shifters will work. I would like to stay with down tube friction shifter but I believe I need to stick to 8 speeds, maybe 9. I plan on using Sram Rival detailers for both front and back. Once I figure the shifting out I can move on to brake levers.
I will post pictures of the stripped frame as it is interesting to some what is under the paint. Im going to paint it with automotive paint in Pontiac Brazen orange as found on the Solstice. I will leave the rear seat and chain stays the black chrome as they were from the factory. Most of the Rival parts are black
Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Keep us updated with photos!

Personally, if you're staying with downtube, you should get the 9spd Dura-Ace that's still in production. Pretty sure you can run them indexed or friction. 9spd cassettes are still popular and you'll avoid compatibility problems with modern freehubs.

Here are some photos of the stripped frame. This was quite the task. the seat tube was very difficult to strip. I hope the photos show what the finish on the painted tubes looks like.Suntour
I have tested both wheels on my 85 Peloton and have decided that the Suntour Superbe Pro downtube friction shifters will work just fine with an 8 speed cassette. The Superbe Pro FD and RD work well too. Im going to use Modolo Kronos shifters and Sram Rival FD and RD. The calipers are Rival as well with Sram TT50(90?) aero brake levers.

That is very cool man! I dig the brazed on cable guides on the BB too! Sounds like you have excellent parts for it too, can't wait to see it done.

That is an understatement, stripper is next to worthless sadly. I personally used a lot of sandpaper and then my rotorary tool for the fine points on my tempo, I'll be curious to see what the OP plans.

Crazy man. Thanks for posting these.
Looks like they just dip the rear triangle in the black chrome dip. Always wondered about that.
What are you going to do with it now Ober?

Neato. I look forward to the pics, especially of the final build. What kind of componentry are you going with?

Awesome, thanks for doing this. I know some of us just don't have the strong constitution needed to commit to a complete...er strip.

I thought you were going to keep that chrome job! That would've looked super slick with shiny chrome. Does the PC process ruin the chrome at all?

The silver areas of the chrome are not smooth like the chrome on my 78 Super Le Tour so does not look good.
