Beautiful Mystery Bike - "Petenello" - Can anyone shed some light?

I have a vintage bike that I'd like to know more about, but I'm having trouble finding any details on it anywhere. I assume its Italian based on the name--Petenello--and that's about all I've got. The frame also shows the letters "VP" and Olympic rings. The frame is a beautiful seafoam color with a complex set of decals. See pictures attached. I would very much appreciate if anyone has some knowledge to share.
Thank you!

It looks like "Petteuello". Nice looking bike, huge for a track bike!

It could be a Spanish made bike.

You got the name wrong. Look again, it's "Petteuello" according to the head badge, which sounds more Spanish than Italian to me. I have a Fabio Barreci bike, which certainly is an Italian name, but it's a Spanish made bike and company, so go figure. I think I would research Spanish bikes, maybe you'll come up with something...

huge frame. Is that a reynolds sticker on the fork? Is it original?

Actually, I'm thinking the model of the bike is "Petteuello", and the company that makes it is "VP". Try that maybe...

What kind of components does the bike have? That could help narrow down your search. If for say it has Zeus components, it could very likely be a Spanish made cycle, which is my guess anyway...

Thanks for the comments. The components are all different, so don't think they're original.

The t is double, too. Pettenello yields many results as a family name in the heartland of biking, northern italy, on google.

Yes, its giant. Too big for me so I'm going to sell it. Any idea of the value?

You have the name wrong to Italuminium!

It's a tough one for sure, but it's "Petteuello", which sounds Spanish to me.

As for the value, it's just a guess really, because there is little to no information on it. The frame is obviously high quality, but what about the components? If they are high quality stuff like Campy, Gipiemme, 3TTT, or Zeus and the like, then I would put it out there for about $1000 and see what happens. Somebody might know about this bike and bite....

Better go tell that to Vanni's son then, he's the one who made the bike.

(Actually, I don't know that this bike was made by the son, but both Vanni and his son apparently made frames and ran the family bike store after Vanni's retirement from racing.)

Next time I see him, I'll let him know!

I'm alittle slow, but now I see where the VP comes from. But that headbadge spelling threw me for a loop. Still does really! It's certainly different than how he spells his name...

Good looking out!

It is a Vanni Pettenella (gold medal at 1964 Tokio Olympic Games) bike. Here you can have some informations about Pettenella bikes: https://www.giroditaliadepoca.eu/inde...-29/pettenella
Beautiful bike; I too have a Pettenella (with first Dura Ace group, 1973).

Love it, thanks for the correction. Good luck selling it and finding a worthy replacement in your size.

Thanks for all the info everybody. If anyone else has something to add I'll be staying tuned. It sounds like this is a pretty rare bike and might be quite valuable in the eyes of someone who knows what they're looking at. Also loving the controversy caused by similarities between the cursive "n" and "u".

I'll post the components once I'm back home and can check them all out. I do know the hubs are campy, although the pics show some cheaper wheels i slapped on.

Hey Abom, how did you come to own this cool bike? I've really enjoyed reading the Vanni story prompted by your original post. Who knows?, maybe he built your frame. Some interesting research to be done.

cheers, nice bike

Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum and ask, where have you been !?

You have some beautiful bikes that need to be seen here. That Petenello really is a beauty. So clean and original and the color is just great. The attention to detail is amazing. You should do a seperate thread on her and post the pics on the forum.

Thanks for sharing!
