1990 Schwinn Paramount
My new to me 1990 Schwinn Paramount.
- Waterford Frame (determined by serial number and original owner)
- Shimano Ultegra 600 (RD6400) Gruppo
- Mavic Open 4CD (Front) Araya CTL-370 (Rear)
Only odd part is that the original owner (who I bought it from) drilled holes in the handlebars for internal cable routing. Seems smart and looks very clean. Will it cause any issues?
Other than new tires/tubes and handlebar tape it looks great. Needs a tune up, which I'd like to learn how to do myself when I get the time and tools, but for now I'll take it to a LBS for that. Should I be concerned if I take it for a ride or two before tuning up?
Super excited to add this baby to my fleet of vintages rides. Shout out to BF for all of the great info and vintage bike purchasing education.
Regards,
SoulPro

These are good bikes. I have a 1989 Waterford-built Paramount and the ride is pretty terrific, quite honestly. Maybe it's a funny sort of thing to notice, but mine handles cross winds like nobody's business. I think at least a couple of others on BF have 1990 models also - I don't think anyone regrets having one of these in the stable. I like the look of your bike, btw.
I replaced the 3ttt stem with a longer one a few months ago.

Banned.
Nice bike.
Can't see how internal hndlebar routing makes any difference.
Doesn't make much difference, appearance-wise, either.
Inside the bar, along the bar... same-same.
Not a lot of OEM bikes used CTL-370's as OEM, very light rim.
Not sure if the Mavic would be the OEM rim, either, Schwinn experts will chime in.
Smooth, light.
Right.

I have always been partial to Schwinn Paramounts -- generally great-looking bikes with nice road manners.

Yeah I'm stoked! Just picked her up this afternoon. Took her for a test ride to check out the shifting and brakes, but definitely need new tires before a ride longer than down my street. Previous owner babied it so the condition is pristine.

Still learning
Is that the Paramount that Kurt from Plymouth had listed? I was tempted, but I've got a 1986 that I have as a garage queen already! Enjoy your new ride, you'll love it!

My wife's Pink Paramount. Currently hanging as a bare frame waiting to be set up with Campy 10. The only thing stopping me is that she has never loved the Pink.

Nice Paramount.
With regard to the drilled bars, I had the same thing on a Centurion Ironman I picked up. When I shared the info here on BF, C&V section, the overwhelming response was don't use those bars due to concern about the aluminum possibly cracking and breaking. I'd take pics and post here, play it safe.

I love my 91 Paramount, the color in the picture shows incorrect, what appears yellow is actually a bright fluorescent green.
Mine has since been converted to Shimano 600 brifters.
