Northwest Tandem Rally and Cycle Oregon

We just signed up for Cycle Oregon. Northwest Tandem Rally (NWTR) reg is not yet open but we plan to sign up. We haven't done either before. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about either. Cycle Oregon route looks very tandem friendly (flat). Can't wait.

SouthWest Tandem rally is 4/26-28 in Palestine Texas. It is already full. : (

We are thinking of signing up for this rally in June. It is our annivarsary and we always take off. May jump over to Penn. and visit Hershey Park. We went there with kids when they were young and it was a great amusement park. Wife liked how it smelled like chocolate all day everywhere!https://tandemhoots.ning.com/events/i...dem-rally-2013

We've done Cycle Oregon 3 times - 04, 07 and 10 and the last two on a Tandem. It's an incredibly well organized group but the ride this year just didn't do it for us even though it has around 120 miles and 10k less feet of climbing then it did in 07 and 10. Hopefully you signed up for the tent and porter service - makes it so much more enjoyable not having to pack up a tent in the morning when it's cold and sometimes wet.

We've also done the NWTR several times - although everyone has been in Oregon. We did it last year and had a blast despite the rain. Nothing like 300-400 other tandems/triplets/quads out on the roads together. We are talking about doing this year in WA since we've never been.

Rattlesnake pass in 2010

This was a 90 mile day with 5k vertical..

The last day in 07 - 5k climb up old McKenzie/Santium Pass!

Have not done Cycle Oregon yet, but try to do the NWTR most years. It is an awesome event and is highly recommended.

we have done Cycle Oregon three times. Twice on tandem 11,12. In fact Cycle Orgeon 07 was the reason we bought a tandem. My wife is a little faster( 5%) on singles and we never saw each other during the day. We saw all the tandems seemingly having a blast. We never looked back since then. Last year was not very tandem friendly but this year looks much better. We are passing on this year to do a week of mtn tandeming in Moab instead. Enjoy the ride you will never hear on you left and say it as many times anywhere else as Cycle Oregon.

Cycle Oregon is often close enough to where I live that I find myself riding the same roads, albeit in the opposite direction, when it passes by. It's a well-organized event. However, the riders are often a bit inexperienced so don't take any chances or make any assumptions; leave yourself a substantial margin for error and expect the unexpected from you fellow riders.

This year's CO brings back some memories. A quarter-century ago, we bought our first tandem and after a few shakedown tours we took off on a trip from near Sacramento to Banff and Jasper. We rode most of the roads that this year's CO is rolling on. I remember our mantra at the time was, "All wind originates in Spokane", which means expect some north winds on this year's ride.
