Red Hook Crit Brooklyn Navy Yard tomorrow night. Who's going?
https://redhookcrit.com/
My first ever bike race of any kind was the red hook crit a few months ago. I missed qualifying by exactly 1 second. part 2 is tomorrow at the brooklyn navy yard. I'm hoping to qualify this time around. either way it's an amazing event to get to be a part of.
anyone here going tomorrow? looks like there's no rain tomorrow, thankfully.

you should just hop on the ferry and bike over the manhattan bridge. should be easy enough. it really is an amazing atmosphere at night, it's fun.

i qualified for the main race and i'm pretty satisfied with how i did. avoided a few big crashes, i'm most happy about that.
1 rider in the 1st qualifying group had a bad accident coming into a turn way too fast. it looked really bad when i biked past.
overall the course was super fun. i had fun with the turns. a lot of the top guys got knocked out really early because of crashes though. i feel kind of bad. the course was very fast and tricky.

the qualifying lap crash on the second to last turn was grusome. there was a lot blood. he must have met the steel barrier face first at full speed. the metal was actually bent from his impact.

That's ****ing stupid. I'm surprised the city even let them host a race where the obvious objective is to cause crashes.

Obviously not all 97 others crashed, they were also pulling those not in contention. Halfway through on lap 13 of 26, there were only like ~30 left. This one was the worst as far as crashes though.

The organizers no EXACTLY what they're doing.
"Hey, let's make a really fast and technical crit course, only allow brakeless fixed gears, and get this, no racing license required, so we'll get tons of unskilled riders! "

i think the idea is to get people to experience racing without having to get licenses and go through all the usual rules to make it more accessible
youre also taken off if youve been lapped, which happens pretty quickly (at least last year, i can only imagine it got faster and pulled faster riders this year)
i wanna see a video of the "big" crash everyones talking about

You can't mix pros with Joes. Unless of course you're looking for crashes.
The two videos above seem pretty big. When bikes get thrown 20 feet in the air, I think it's pretty serious.

that was definitely a big deal though they all look fine enough to get up and wonder where his bike went
supposedly theres another one with more people involved, someone said "there was blood everywhere"
