Out riding to get away from the trivial news all over the media
Switched on the TV & radio news this morning and couldn't get away from a certain imminent birth in the UK.
Went for a great 2.5 hour ride along the Taff Trail and the coast road, with a coffee and cake stop, and it felt so good.
Returned home and still more of the same stuff lunchtime. The papers and all media will be full of it tomorrow, and probably for days - no, weeks - to come, so another long ride is on the cards.
Cycling is great for bringing calm to my life and cutting through the crap.

I happened to watch the CBS, ABC, and NBC news last night, and only one had anything on the TDF, the third largest sporting event in the world. A golf victory was on all three.
I have nothing against golf, but it's funny to compare a 2,000 mile three-week race with a couple of guys walking around on the grass.

Beautiful day like today and You have to remind me That I now no longer have an excuse to get away from the garden chores in the afternoon--Or do I not.

Hopefully you will be able to see why I have Eurosport on Satellite. Plenty of reasons not to hear all the EXTENDED NEWS that is bound to be filling every moment on the TV and the Radio.

I haven't had a TV hooked up and working in my house for over 6 years. There is so much garbage on TV that I may never set mine up again. I can see just about anything that I want to see on the computer and I get to select what I watch.

About the same for me, except I get my fix via Roku. Video on demand is pretty cool. I do miss The Tennis Channel and OLN, (or is that Versus, or something else now). If the satellite companies every offer a la carte programming, then I'll seriously reconsider getting a new dish.

I don't watch hardly any TV, the occasional movie, News If something Important Is going on, the weather now and then,,,
Seems to me our I.Q. steadily drop's In relation to hours spent in front of the 'BOOB TUBE'
The DVR is kinda nice, cuts down a 2 hour movie to about an hour if ya speed past the commercial noise.
As for broadcast,, no way too many commercials.

Sorry, but if you talk about IQ, errors in your post are fair game.

I'd rather watch real world news than the crap they serve up here in the US anyway. I watch foreign news services on the net and save the cable bill costs for bike accessories and parts. They cover what the prez sez and move onto other news.....And they cover the Grand Tours.

D'oh. I inadvertently found out it's a ___. I fear that I'll find out the name when I get home since my wife follows celebrity tripe. I was able to avoid learning the Kardasian kids name for almost a week. Don't think I'll be so lucky this time.

Our friends in the media seem to have forgotten that one of the reasons we had a revolution was to rid ourselves of the burden of monarchy. Or maybe they never knew?
Would like to say that I'm going out for a ride to get away from the hype -- but the reality is that I was going to ride anyway...

Well I spoke too soon. Just turned on France 24 and it's all about the Royal Family instead of something really depressing in Syria or Mali or Iraq......So I turned it off.

The name of the 3rd in line to the throne has not been announced yet and probably will not be done for a few days.

Want to avoid the fluff on the 'news' (which is usually anything BUT?) -- surf the www at the same time, tune out the broadcast and focus on the website you're on; this will work if you can't bring yourself to turn OFF the thing. . .since MOST of the news is handpicked partisan propaganda.
