Company starting a cycling club...Jersey = SUPER yellow with company logo in center.
So I'm in the group that is starting up a cycling club at work. We have a lot of employees and a good number are cyclist. Most of the cyclist are recreational and ride for fitness at lunch or on the weekends in various groups. I am trying very hard to not show any kind of elitism.
They presented the jerseys today and everyone started voting on the SUPER BRIGHT yellow jersey with a small company logo in the center. I mentioned that this is over the top and there are other non-yellow options available but everyone talked about how great it looks and how you will be more visible to cars. I mentioned that it's typically worn by the leader of the tour de france and this isn't just a yellow jersey, this is super yellow just like the tour jerseys.
People replied back saying "we don't think anyone will think we are the leaders of the tour de france, lets go with the yellow jersey. It looks great and it represents the company as a fast club." (These guys are NOT fast),
I'm all for wearing pro kit jerseys and colors but a bright yellow jersey seems over the top. Thoughts?
I honestly don't know what to say. I don't feel comfortable wearing the jersey but I feel like if the club wants to they can wear them.
I have to pay for the jersey and it cost $65...

Just saying it'd be awkward showing up wearing A) their clothes you "feel uncomfortable wearing" or B) Your own because you feel uncomfortable wearing theirs.

It looks very much like this except the center isn't sky but our company logo
I am part of the club primarily to promote wellness, cycling, being healthy and car-free lifestyle. I have zero to benefit from the group rides because they don't line up with my training plan. I will ride with them from time to time just to be social.
They do not ride at night, or early mornings, or in the winter. I see no reason to wear a bright yellow TdF style jersey...If you want to be more visible: wear reflective clothing, reflective vest, or front/rear lights. A yellow jersey is kind of over the top.
Thoughts? Really not trying to sound like an elitist. Am I exaggerating?

What?
Rule #16 // Respect the jersey.
Championship and race leader jerseys must only be worn if you’ve won the championship or led the race.

I wouldn't think twice about it. It's a group ride where everyone wears the same yellow jersey. I don't think anyone will mistake (or even make the connection between) a group of Russian cyclists and the leader/winner of the TdF.
Besides, it's not like you have to wear it on your solo rides. Go with the team on this one.

I work for Boeing and the have a Jersey and riding shorts with 787 branding all over it. If they had a cycling team or group ride I could wear it. Even though I work on the 777 it would be OK by me. I doubt there are to many companies that would get involved except maybe the cycling industry. Does the color really matter, it's amazing they got involved so the small stuff seems a little petty to get worked up over.

Take a Valium.
When I say that, it's a bad sign.
Unless you're just trolling, in which case, carry on.

Oh, ovoleg, after your Speedplay thread, I thought you were a little nutty, but I'll go ahead and
go with you on this one.
As a real pro cycling fan and lover of the TdF, I just wouldn't feel comfortable wearing yellow. Just wouldn't be right.
I guess it would be like being on a company hockey team and wearing a Stanley Cup jersey, or something.
I can see how your company cycling team could innocently decide on yellow, so it's quite the quandary.
There, you got one person to side with you...

I'd wear it, no problem. I have discovered, by the way, that contrary to what I might think, nobody actually seems to care AT ALL what I wear.
When I wore my Waldo outfit, I'm pretty sure nobody actually mistook me for Waldo, and he is WAY more widely recognized than some French cyclist dude.
If you want to make absolutely positively sure that nobody will mistake it for a TdeF item, insist that they put "Drug Free!" under the logo.

Make a more persuasive argument and call for a re-count.

Working there is optional. You can quit at anytime.
Or you can man up and wear the team jersey.... you'll look like less of a dork wearing the same stupid thing as a bunch of people than the one black sheep who refuses to play along.
