Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

August Cycling Highlights, Distances, Times, Etc.

In terms of cycling ... how was your August? Were there any particular highlights? Did you complete an event? Accomplish something you haven't done before? Do some enjoyable rides with family and friends?

How was your distance/time? Did you get out lots ... or just a little bit?

Rowan and I managed 167.72 km in 5 rides through this last month of winter. It wasn't a particularly good month for cycling (bad weather, lots of running errands on weekends, etc.), but we still managed more than in July.

The highlight of the month was probably our ride on August 4. It wasn't a particularly long ride, but it was the first ride I did on Machak, my Marinoni Ciclo ... the first ride in 3 years and 4 months. As many of you know, he was stolen then, but recovered now.

We also had a good weekend of cycling last weekend, on our Anniversary weekend.

223 miles in August, eclipsed 1000 for the year on Thursday. Usually I have 1000 sooner but we had a long, snowy winter and I got a late start on commuting. Much fewer than many here however I'm still happy with it. If all goes well, I should have around 1500 for the year before I go back to driving my ~10 mile round trip commute.

280 miles, and 5 separate days of 2-3000ft+ climbing. Conquered 2 of the local big climbs that I hadn't attempted before. So August was a good month after a slow start.

Best month to date. 741.5 miles in 20 rides and a hair over 39 hours. Bagged my first century as well at the beginning of the month. I am pleased with how August panned out.

504mi (811km) for the month. Did my fastest group ride, fastest time on the weekly time trial and started joining a fun shop ride that will help me get stronger.

September promises more miles and more 1st accomplishments so I'm looking forwarded it

Not an unusual amount of miles or anything, but I did take a trip to the Grant Tetons, which was a nice highlight.

a pretty blah month compared to the rest this year-mostly due to work conflicts. only month this year-so far-without riding at least one century.
managed 376 miles but didn't ride the whole last week of august. highlight was a 75-mile ride in the foothills of orange county, california
with 2 smaller rides (another in orange county riding the 10 mile 1984 olympic road race loop in mission viejo, ca-pros did it 12x...and one on the palos verdes peninsula outside los angeles). been a great year so far so planning on making september a better month.
