Have You Given Your Bike a Name?
My family used to do this with cars. While I was peeling paint chips off my commuter this weekend, I wondered why I haven't given my bike a name. If you have named your bike, please share. I'm sure some of you will have come up with some pretty clever ones.

I don't give inanimate objects names. Honestly I think it's just kind of silly. I don't care if people do but I think they're being silly. It's a hunk of metal and plastic. Might as well give a name to my backpack or my water bottle.

The manufacturer named mine, both of them.
They made sure it was known to anyone who sees them by placing the brand/moniker in gaudy decals on the bikes.

The orange bike, the gray bike, and the yellow bike, or sometimes, the singlespeed, the multi-speed, and the mini-velo respectively.

No. When I was in the Navy, most of the more gung ho career guys called the ship I was on "she". I always referred to it as "it".

I think that's pretty traditional when it comes to ships, boats, etc. Also countries are referred to as "she". I've never done it with cars, though.

Yep. It's definitely silly, but I still do it. My current bike is named "doofus." Based on my username, you can probably guess the manufacturer. Somehow it makes me happy to say "come on, Doofus, let's get going" as we pull out of the garage in the morning. Of course, I've also named my sourdough starter.

OK, so lots of commenters who do NOT give their bikes names. Thanks for nothin! Why waste all of our time?
Ennnyways, my bike was originally christened "Blimey" by my wife, because it is blue with lime accents (and we share an affinity for England). But once I fattied up to Vee Rubber v12 29x1.95 tires, I had to rename it BEEFEA (my favorite name from the Utah Baby Namer)

I name most of my bikes after characters from Don Quixote. The crazy old man finding adventure across the landscape seemed to fit me, frighteningly well.
Rocinante was my first bike, since that was Señor Quixote's horse. It's a 1986 Austro-Diamler mixte. I still have her and call her Rosie.
La Mancha is a 1998 Schwinn Homegrown. My current MTB.
Doña Molinera was my Fuji Touring. I called her Molly. She was a fabulously comfortable bike that I put over 20,000 mile on. Lost her in my accident, last year.
Lucinda is my Jamis Aurora Elite. I've only had her a few months, so I'm still breaking her in. I usually call her Lucy.
I have a few other bikes with non-quixotic names.
Special-Ed (I know–not an uncommon name for a Specialized).
Big Red is my New Belgium, Fat Tire Beer, beach cruiser by Felt.
While yes, I did come up with the names for my bikes, my wife calls them by their names more often than I do.
i.e.-"Hey, get Lucy out of the dining room. My mom is coming over, tomorrow."

Her name is Lola. As in Barry Manilow's song "Copacabana". She has recently been granted a divorce from her ex-husband, Lanny, the MTB. Perhaps, in the near future, she will be ready to get back on the market with another MTB.

I call them by their brand name mostly then by model, I don't give them "human" names, although I guess Miyata, Schwinn and Lynskey is pretty darn human, the rest are just fictitious names someone came up with for branding.

Not so much a name but since my TREK was always the pack mule for our family biking adventures when the kids were still at home carrying extra water, snacks, jackets, etc. I took to calling it No. 7 after Mad Jack's mule on the TV Show "Grizzly Adams". The rest of the fleet just gets called by brand or model names except my newly built beater bike. I put a repop Western Flyer head tube decal on it just for fun but honestly I have no clue what brand it had been so it's just called "the beater bike".

I've named a few of my cars but never any of my bikes. Yet I'm more attached to my bikes than I ever was to a car. Hmm.
