which is which - double or triple - Campagnolo Chorus Front derailleur

Hello,
I just go a Campagnolo Record triple crank set 50/40/30. I am trying to find the triple FD to use with this.
I found 2 Chorus FD , none of them labeled tripple like other Camy FD.

Can you tell me which one is the triple one (Left or Right) . The left one is bigger. May be none of them is triple

https://sdrv.ms/1adZEeW

Thank you very much as always.

Can't speak with certainty regarding double or triple, but the one on the right is made for smaller rings and/or a bigger difference small to large, so it's either a compact or triple.

Note the larger deeper inner cage plate which is the giveaway.

The one with the deeper back plate.

But, like FB, will it clear the 40 to shift to the 50 , well ? DK.

(I use an older Victory Leisure FD with my 50 40 24, (formerly 30) <C> triple )

Note the different clamp diameters. Make sure you get the right size for your frame, or braze on if that's what you need.

Thank you very much, so the right FD is triple, it is nice since the right one is 28.6 and my frame is 28.6. I was worried that if none of them is a triple. I would have to go with a braze on route since I can't find a Campy triple FD 28.6 on Ebay.

Thanks everyone for your kind help.!

I don't know if it's a universal feature of Campy front derailleurs but in the mid-2000's doubles had a rubber insert in the cage and triples did not. Also, I have a 2006 Veloce triple on one bike and a same year Centaur triple still NIB and both have the deeper inner cage plate like the right side derailleur in the photo Kimmo enlarged.

And for general info, in that time period Campy Triples came as either 53/42/30 or the 50/40/30 configuration you have and, AFAIK, only one form of triple front derailleur was used for both.

HillRider,
Thank you for your info, it is good to know. I love Campy stuffs but sometimes I just feel they make thing so much complicated compare to Shimano and Sram, but Campy is so good so I can accept that .

BTW- if the one you have is a compact and won't work as a triple. I still have a few NOS racing T front derailleurs from about 2001. No problem with the 28.6mm clamp.

The one in the middle is a Chorus 10 speed compact double derailleur, flanked by a 1996 Racing-T derailleur on the left, and CT + standard compatible double on the right.

The CT on the parallelogram and front cage insert are the give-aways.

10 speed triple derailleurs aren't configured for an insert.

The CT front derailleurs (not the combined dual purpose FDs that came out later) have a the shape of a bump extending downward along the bottom edge of the inside cage plate. The triples do not.

Shimano has triple mechs and double mechs, as well as those designed for compacts and super compacts, and that's just four varieties for road, ignoring MTBs and hybrid. AND variations at all the different price points.

I don't see where Campy is making anything more complicated than Shimano is. It's just a different product line; Ford is not equal to Chrysler, as Peugeot is not equivalent to Renault just to use automotive analogies. And Campy has actually tried to simplify things by combining the compact and triple products into one in more recent years.

If your Chorus triple front mech does not work for your 50/40/30 and it is not broken in some way, I would buy it from you. I can use one, since I'm going triple on my Mondonico ELOS.

AFAIK, Shimano never offered specific road front derailleurs for compact road cranks but said their standard double front derailleurs worked for both. Campy initially sold compact-specific front derailleurs but later gave up on the idea as unnecessary and went back to a single design for both types of double cranks.

BTW, as I mentioned above I have a NIB Centaur triple 10-speed braze-on fd. PM me if you are interested.
