Eighth Annual Chicagoland Spring Classic & Vintage Ride
I bet you are asking yourself, wasn't last year the fourth annual? What happened to 5, 6 and 7? I attribute it to old age, I checked, the inaugural ride was in 2007.
Also, I added a "hill" to the ride. And now there will be a koh contest. Get to the top first, and you get your lunch free, paid by me.
WHAT: Open invitation to a ride for anyone who reads this post, and their friends. Riding your vintage bike is highly encouraged but all bikes and riders are welcome. This is a no drop ride but there is no SAG support.
WHEN: Saturday April 19, 2014. Meet at 8:30, start ride at 9:00 am. Rain date is Sunday April 20, 2014.
WHERE: Crystal Lake Main Beach Parking Lot - here
FORMAT: A nice leisurely 40-mile ride, flat as a pancake, tacos at the end of the ride. This is the route. I will have a print out of the map and cue sheet at the start of the ride.
No-Drop rule, B-group speed.
Only moral support is provided. You must provide your own fluid/food for the ride. There is a stop at a quiky mart at the halfway point for food and drink.
WHY: This is meant as a social ride. It is an opportunity for Bike Forums members, friends and acquaintances to get together and meet, and ride together in a group. And eat some great tacos, or torta, or burrito or whatever floats your boat. Last year's ride - https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...tage-ride.html
Feel free to bring non-BF riders as well, but remember this is not an “organized event”. This is simply a large group ride.
Please spread the word to anyone else you think might be interested.

Bump.
I was planning on scouting the route to check for winter damage but I have been knocked out by a nasty bug/flu/cold thing. Maybe next weekend.

Sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well. Hopefully you'll feel better quickly.
BTW, thank you for hosting this ride. I hope we finally get some decent riding weather, too.

Hey now. One year it was 60 at the start, 70 by the end. I wore short sleeves and shorts. I swear.

Two years ago when all of March the weather was in the 60's to 80's, on the day of this ride it never got above 40.
Still had a good time.

I have never done a group ride before. What does "This is a no drop ride but there is no SAG support" mean?

SAG support...................a support vehicle that will assist riders with mechanical issues or give you a ride back to your starting point if you are unable to continue for any reason.
It is, in effect, a social ride as opposed to a training ride or hammerfest.

"no drop" means faster riders ride a bit slower to slow the group to hold together (or at least pause occasionally to allow slower riders to catch up)
"no sag" means that Dave's better half won't be following along in the family car to assist if you suffer a breakdown, or foolishly forget to carry a spare tubular tire for your "funny" time trial bike with the unbelievably hard to source elfin front wheel.
