Looking to buy a good bike for transport and touring, smooth ride is the key. I cam across this Miyata 110, listed at $250. First time serious buyer so I wanted a seasoned opinion.

For $250 not complete missing stuff pass on this one. You shouldn't even think of going over $200 on a vintage road bike that isn't complete as new or somewhat inexperianced buyer.

Depends on the market, get some other prices on other bikes from craigslist to get an idea of the market. And of course the most important thing is, is it the right size for you? That is a small frame, for a smaller than average rider/ The stem is high, but probably close to maxed out.

Nothing wrong with the parts.

I'm from kingston so there really isn't a big market at all unfortunately. I've looked through kijiji and craigslist, not much at all on either. In regards to size, im 5 foot 9 with about a 31" leg length, frame size listed as Medium, so im assuming its around 22-23" ?

I think these came 21-23-25" so it probably a 21". Might fit you just fine. A bit pricey but if pickins is slim, go for it.

The frame is 21 inches. That should translate into a 30.5" stand-over height. I'm about your size and I've ridden a 21" bike for years with no problem. If you're like me you should maybe try seeing how you like 23" frames. I just bought one and it fits with a fistful of seat post showing.

It sounds like they changed out a bunch of components for newer stuff, so they might not be willing to come down on the price. At $250 this won't be moving fast. Maybe after a few more weeks of it clogging up space in their garage you can get a better deal. To me, finding a vintage bike online for a decent price is a waiting game where the price, condition, initial quality, frame size, and location stars all have to align- perhaps not perfectly, but close!

That's high for that bike. It's a nice bike, though, and it looks clean. If all the parts are available (seatpost as well as saddle) and the bike fits you well, it might be OK if inventory is low.

This is at the lower end of the Miyata line but Miyata made fine bikes. This is a quality bike.

Too small. I am 5'9" and would steer clear any frame smaller than 56cm, with 58cm preferred.

Interesting, I am 6' and ride a 56cm all the way to a 60cm depending on the bike.

I don't think $250 is too bad for that bike. $200 would be better but, with the upgrades, you are unlikely to find a nicer riding bike for the money. IF IT FITS

$200 would be my highest offer on that, or I'd simply walk away. Miyata made great bikes with strong frames across the lineup, but the 110 was hardly an uncommon bike and won't command a premium no matter what you put on it. I bought mine with OEM components aside from a Shimano Eagle II rear for $100. Granted, mine's a late 70's model with cheaper gear on it, but the concept is the same.

If you take a test ride and it feels like a winner (and fits!), make an offer, but don't pay full freight for it. It's just not worth that kind of money.
