Road Helmet versus MTB Helmet. Sun in my eyes....
I've been riding a long time with an older GIRO Road Helmet...but I'm at the point that I can't take the sun coming in between the helmet and my sunglasses any longer. Whether it's being at that age (I just hit 62) or I'm being a weenie I don't know.
Has anyone out there gone from Road to MTB because of the sun visor that comes on them and prevents this? I use to have a helmet with a visor, but I liked the look without the visor, Now, I'm into comfort more than appearance!!

Have you tried a cycling cap under your helmet? The little bill can be used to block the sun. MTB helmets should not be used on a road bike. It's the rules!

Before wearing a helmet, I use to ride with just a baseball cap and sunglasses. Perfect!...except for apparently cheating possible death every time i did it.
As for a cap beneath, that's much to cumbersome for me. I might have to break THE RULES OF ROAD BIKING and do the MTB helmet thing, getting one as close to a Road helmet as possible.

I use an MTB hat as well.
My visor broke off, so I have to get a new one- it's for the best anyway- it's a few years old.

I miss my old road helmet with the optional vizor, a Specialized. I gave it up when the plastic parts started breaking. I am contemplating a bike cap but doubt the visor will help that much and I probably wont wear it in 80+ degree weather. I debated too and went with the road helmet because of the great reveiws.

There's a very fine line between visors blocking the sun and visors blocking your vision up the road. That is why few bicyclists with drop-bar road bikes use visors. If you're not already using wrap-around sunglasses, they make a big difference with the sun and wind.

I've been riding with a Bell Influx for quite awhile. I guess it's considered an MTB helmet since it has a removable visor. I remove the visor on group rides so I can keep track of people around me a bit better, but the visor comes in handy when riding alone in the desert sun.

Mtb helmets provide better back lower head protection with a removable visor. My giro havoc has given me years of confortable with reasonably good loks!!

I wear a bike cap all the tme and the visor is great for keeping the sun out of your eyes. Lightly colors caps made of cotton make my head feel cooler in warm weather

My go-to helmet is Giro MTB helmet that is identical to a road helmet, except for the visor, graphics, & price. Due to moving house a few times the visor now swivels up and down . I haven't yet decided if that's a good thing or not. But I do like being able to block morning/evening sun when necessary. I have no problem with restricted vision below the visor; that is with my stem several inches below my saddle, so I guess all my neck vertebrae are still in good working order, apparently.

Always wear a cycling cap under my helmet.
Prevents sunburn to bald head and can pull the visor lower over the eyes if needed. Also comes in handy as a rag if needed!
Own lots of them . . .

I've been using a Giro Hammerhead MTB lid with visor. Recently I removed the visor because it kept falling down in front of my face. I honestly don't notice a difference w/o visor.

Another giro Mtn helmet wearer here. I purchased a road helmet once, I returned it after the first day commutting with the sun in my eyes. Some people say visors obstruct the view but I have never had an issue with that, even while riding in fairly low drops. I have already subjected my skin to too much sun to put being cool above being in the shade.

Banned.
Most comfortable helmet I've ever had. Webbing touches the scalp, not foam.
Great air flow, worn over Rx glasses, great vision, no sun problems.
Yes, dorky. This was on takeoff, before I'd gotten it back farther on my head.
Expensive, but found on sale for 60% off MSRP.

Baseball cap under a Giro road helmet works for me, but I'm a Fred anyway (sweat pants, t shirt, and ride with upright bars) Tim
