For those of you who live in areas with 4 seasons. Fall is around the corner, I noticed leaves falling from trees lining bike paths and roads. How late into the year do you ride?

I only put my bike up for a month in January when it snows pretty much constantly here, otherwise i'm back out as soon as it melts.

Some people don't like having to put bulky clothes on to ride, but I don't mind. Winter has its own charms and some beautiful scenery, an early ride to the coffee shop to warm up makes for a great morning.

Yeah, same here. The only days/months I'm not riding, is when we have several feet of snow on the ground. Last winter was terrible here in MI, but previous one forgot to come here I guess lol I was riding with my 7 year old son 12 months last year, which was something really off with weather, especially here, comparing to previous years.

Some people don't mind cold weather, and wearing bunch of clothing, but most will stop riding when warmer jacket is just not enough to make ride pleasant.

Im in Michigan. My season normally starts the first or second week in April and goes till first of November...only 6 months of riding a year for me.

I ride all year. I haven't taken a bus or train to commute for about 4 years. Our snow in the city only gets to about 10cm.

40°, I like to ride in shorts and t-shirt, LOL. Actually, 40's is a tough one because I don't know if it will rise up to 50 and don't have a way to carry clothing. 40's in shorts/t-shirt was an exaggeration, but 50 certainly isn't. Once it hits 50, I need to be in shorts and a t-shirt or I'm sweating worse than 90° mid summer.

I ride all year. As long as you have the right equipment, riding in the cold, snowy weather isn't too bad.

I try to put miles on in every month of the year. In the last three years, I only missed one month - February 2014 was just plain unrideable for me, between the cold, snow and ice build up.

florida it's all about the WIND when talking about winter riding! right now it's absolutely perfect calm every morning in central florida. fall into winter has nothing to do with temps but everything to do with cold fronts and wind. winds of 20 to 30mph lasting for two week stretches is not uncommon in October threw May.

if you can stand a little heat come cycle florida in september it's still a bicyclers dream with low traffic and NO WIND.

...here in Victoria we can ride all year quite easily, the only days you really don't want to be out is if its a windy storm or we get one of our infrequent dumps of slush in the winter, other than that go for it. You do have to dress according to the temperatures if you wish a comfortable ride...

For the past two years I've managed to ride at least once each month of the year. The only weather that stops me is the wet slushy mix we often get here.
While riding near the harbour last December I met a nice chap walking his dog. He singled me out to chat as I was the only cyclist he had seen in a month! Turns out he had recently retired, moved here and purchased an small RV. Since that time we have become good friends and he has joined us on some group campouts. He has a nice older MTB, a Trek I think, but we have not had a chance to ride together yet.
Its good to get out on a bike any time of the year.

I ride year round, its a great way to get your motorcycle fix ( sensation of being on 2 wheels) without the insane winter windblast you get on a MC.

I get massive sinus headaches when the temps get below 55 or so, so in northern OH, that gives me about 4 good months to ride. I am going to try to venture out more this fall trying a few things to lessen the effects of the cold air, but I REALLY want to move south ASAP.

I hate riding in layers, so I ride whenever the temperature is over 40 degrees which seems to be a my breaking point for comfort in shorts and t-shirt. In the northeast, that could mean May - September or March - November. The last couple years I've only rode from April through November. I tried bundling up warm and riding back in February, but after a snowstorm and nearly getting hit as a car slid into the ditch to my right I put my bike away until the snow cleared.

I'm always good to go above 50F, and I'll usually ride down to about 40F, and rarely in the 30s.

Here in SW Ohio, the winter was way colder than normal. But there was also some dramatic swings in temperature. Often there's rain along with the warm day, but I did get out at least twice in every winter month.

See this weatherspark.com history. (The dark red and blue lines are the average high and low for that day.) It was a high of only 23F on Wed Jan 28, and then 57F on Sat Feb 1. There were ice blocks floating down the Ohio River that day, and I just had a vest on.

I did 14 rides in March, with lots of days over 50F.

For me, I try to ride at least 1-2 times a week all year, even in the winter, unless there's accumulated snow on the shoulders. Drivers around here are bad enough that I don't take the chance that comes with having less riding surface. That said, in the winter, I find the wind to be a tougher obstacle than the temperature itself.

All year. Cold doesn't really bother me. It's the brutal winter headwind that sucks the enjoyment out of riding. Also you can't take a break during a long ride like sitting and enjoying the view like you can during the summer. Your sweat will dry out and lower your body temperature..then you'll really start feeling cold. So I guess the cold does bother me.

Here in the Midwest we can get winter temperatures of -20F. I don't ride when it's really cold! And it is temperature not calendar date that determines my cycling season. I will ride on December 31st if it's not too cold and/or icy. And I start the new season on new years day.... if I can bare a few miles of whatever the weather has to offer.

I have a saying: If I only bicycled when the weather was nice I wouldn't be a cyclist. I'd just be another old fat man with a bicycle hanging in his garage.

When snow and ice on the ground is typical, it's time (for me). That's pretty much the December snows, though many days will be okay to ride without the risk. By early April, beyond the cold, it'll be fine.

Wow, you guys are hardier than me. The Polar Vortex last year hit Minnesota like the winters of old. Also, this far north, it gets dark at 5PM in mid-winter. I hate riding in the dark. I put my bike away when daylight savings time ends in October, and bring it out again when the high temperature is above 50 degrees (May). In winter I get my daily workout by walking around one of the city's lakes (3+ miles), after dark.
