Birthday ride back on schedule
The weather fairy has smiled on me once again, assuming the forecast for tomorrow holds.
Last week, the long range forecast was showing that today would be the day to ride, but looks now like tomorrow, the day on which my birthday falls, will be the nicer day to do my 61 miler.
November in this part of the country is not the time to rely on suitable weather for a long ride, but this will be the third year in a row that I'm able to get it in, and it looks now like it will be a lot nicer than it was last year.
Telling you folks in advance is insurance against getting cold feet and backing out.

An early happy Birthday wish to you, Dan. Best of luck on your B'day ride, too.

From there, I fought a brutal cross/headwind all the way. When I hit the 61km mark at Beamsville, I was ready to call it a ride and see if I could get away with not doing the miles.
But, I kept plugging away. Did a little side trip through the vine yards to add a bit of distance, and rode into and around St. Kits.
Made it back to Jordan harbour with 100.5 km showing on the dash.
Hopefully, we'll get that ride in before the snow gets too deep.

Fantastic, Dan, congratulations on completing your birthday ride on its proper day. Again, Happy Birthday, one extra wish, and a day late shouldn't matter as old as we are all becoming .

Thanks again. It's a good thing I got the ride in yesterday, as the weather took a drastic turn to the cold side today with high winds. I don't think riding along the lakeshore would be much fun today.

Well, to hold with tradition here, it must be in miles, so conversion is necessary since we operate in kms here in the frozen north.
100 km is 62 miles, so my one mile per year is covered with one to spare.

With my birthday landing as it does on Remembrance day, I am always treated to an air show on my rides along the waterfront. The Canadian Heritage Warplane Museum is just down the road in Hamilton, and every November 11, they bring some of their vintage warbirds out and drive them around.
In past years, I have seen,(and mostly heard) their Avro Lancaster fly by. Didn't spot that one this year, although I did catch it a few weeks ago flying back from England where it spent the summer flying around with the only other airworthy Lanc in the world.
I did see 4 fighters, which I could not identify fly by in formation a few times and one other heavy was flying around too.
It adds something special to the day.

Congratulations on your ride. While it is getting nasty cold up north, things are just cooling off down here. 55F right now and I am betting that many on the forums wish it was that high by them.
The old war planes are a sight to behold and to hear. Can always tell when the B17 is in for an air show by its sound well before its sight.
