Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Funny thing about mincemeat - it used to contain actual meat. Not much, but some. What you see in stores now, calling itself mincemeat is actually what used to be called "Mock Mincemeat". When I was a kid, Knouse Foods, where Dad worked made Lucky Leaf pie fillings in a lot more flavors than they do now, and they made REAL mincemeat. They also made a raisin pie filling. We'd get them cheap from the commissary, dented cans or ones with cosmetic rust or other damage irrelevant to product quality but making it harder to sell.
I like about everything WRT food. But I only have bad memories of mincemeat. We were just talking about that and Mrs said there was no meat but I remember meat in mincemeat. Haven't tried it as an adult so I don't know what's up.

Almost forgot, I hate grapefruit.

To be fair, even in real mincemeat you'd be hard pressed to identify anything that resembled meat, beyond a fiber or two.

I think mincemeat is one of those things that fell by the wayside as our culture moved in the direction of simpler flavored sweet things. Between the dried fruit, the candied peel, the brandy and/or rum, and the spices, it's a more complex flavor than, for example, chocolate pudding in a shell.

I guess I should have said mainstream American foods. I don't choose to eat bugs despite ingesting them on the road. Tried to eat chitlin's once, nope. Liver and onions can be good but I don't seek it out. Had deep fried chicken hearts and livers and gizzards back when Pioneer Chicken sold them.
A good menudo (tripe) is acceptable.

I haven't been inside a Costco since the pandemic. We purchased an Instacart membership, so now somebody else does the shopping for us. The only extra cost, other than the Instacart membership, is the tip. A small price to pay to spare me of the soul-sucking Costco shopping experience. It probably saves up money, as we're not tempted to impulse by.

You don't even need an Instacart membership to use Same Day Costco. But it's cheaper with an Instacart membership.

It's Costco, BJ's and Sam's, in that order. If you can get to a Costco forget about the rest.

We’ve been in 5 airports in the last two weeks and none have had working phone charger outlets. In fact, I don’t ever remember a working usb charger in any airport.

My do-not-like list is headed by pecan pie, then rhubarb pie. I do like mince meat pie, and I prefer sweet potato pie over pumpkin pie.

My all-star favorites list is headed by blueberry pie, then of course apple pie.

Chocolate pie is dumb. If I want chocolate I get a cake, or ice cream, or dark candy.
