Goal #1: Keep the rubber side down.
Goal #2: Improve my fitness to the point that climbs I once avoided are now routine.
Goal #3: Have as many "peak moments" as possible.

Be the best I can be and have fun doing it (with a little pain thrown in for good measure).

I like to take my stealth ebike out on the MUP and grievously drop all the children and casual riders that I can. The problem is my battery is necessarily small in order to be stealthy so I can only do this for less than an hour before I have to call home and have someone pick me up. I'm saving up for a second battery that I plan to stash at the far end of the MUP so I can drop my victims again going in the other direction.

Totally for fun and health. Since I retired in 2008, I have ridden over 25,000 miles. And when I can I try to ride every other day. At 84 I find a recovery day in between is a good Idea.

to escape reality, since other vices are considered illegal.

As Mr Money Mustache puts it, the bicycle is a money-printing fountain of youth. My wife and I already reached our primary goal of early retirement (at age 40, 25 years ago). We directly attribute that to a cycling lifestyle. Not driving a car allowed us to save aggressively, and allowed us to pay off a mortgage by age 30. Living expenses got very low after that and savings got even more aggressive. We continue to cycle because it keeps us strong and healthy and happy.
Another important goal is reducing our impact for a cleaner world. But that one hasn't been as successful.

I've met most of my cycling goals.
And I'm building back up again.

Hello once again.
I know, I am full of interesting questions.
And here is another one.
What's your end goal as a cyclist? Are you doing it just for fun? Do you want to become a professional one day? Or you just want to be better than your friends.
I am really curious to know.
Thanks,

The long term goal - I want to retain my quality of life the best I can as I age, because I want to enjoy it, damnit. I see an increasing number of overweight old folks who cram down a handful of pills every morning and for whom where they can go is limited by where they can park their car plus a few hundred metres, and that's not the direction I want to be heading in. That means physical exercise and maintaining a healthy weight is a must, and there is no endurance sport nearly as fun as riding a bike.
The other, once the kids grow up a bit and my obligations wind down, is to travel and explore more on my bike, as well as overall minimize car use.

My end goal is to make drivers realize they don't have to be stuck in traffic.

Last year my goal was to keep gradually increasing my training load as measured by Strava fitness. Of course, I knew that a plateau would eventually be reached. Then I lost 2+ months on the bike following an accident. Goal became to get back to where I was. Mostly there now, but I’m likely to plateau sooner rather than later.
Cycling has become a hobby not just exercise etc. I spend as much time planning and analyzing rides, maintaining and upgrading my bikes as I do riding. Being a hobby, I allow myself to change my mind anytime I want. Though I have learned that on those days where I might want to just sit and drink coffee, getting off my duff and riding always makes me feel better.

I did suggest that to my local candidate in the last Ontario election.

Sorry but your suggestion is impractical for majority of the population. Sure let them go ahead and build scenic trails and rail links and it still won't cause millions of people around GTA to give up their cars and stop driving for work.

I just cycle for fun and exercise. I do like to ride at a brisk pace of 17-21mph and usually for 30-50 miles at a time. I don't ride all year as I don't like cold weather riding.

Why ride
I restarted riding at 48 to lose a little weight after an accident kept me immobile for awhile. Started at 6 feet 240 pounds. After 13 years of riding 3 times a week, around 30 miles a ride, Cross country, I weigh 240 pounds. Still 6 foot.

I thought it's a little bit wide, confidence in the right amounts, a smiling face, goofy, and a great sense of humor. The quintessential father-figure!
