I still think it is a Traveler. Again, the catalog pic shows no pump peg but if you read the braze on descriptions on the spec page it specs a pump peg https://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1...0/1987_17.html.
well... the Traveler had a "Schwinn Quality" head badge instead of a "Scwhinn Chicago" (i.e. made from Columbus steel in Taiwan) in '87

Uhhh... World Sports, Travelers, and LeTours had fairly cheesy stamped dropouts, I thought. The bike in question looks like it has decent-quality short horizontal dropouts. Prelude, maybe?
My Mississippi LeTour has a sort-of stamped dropout with a blanked-off slot:

(as far as geometry goes, this bike is on the softer end, so Prelude - or Tempo for an '87- could be it, but 27 inch wheels + a pump peg...)

soonerbills, you raise some good points, most everyone has and you provide evidence. I first thought Traveler; many features could apply to Travelers from 83 on, 82 on, save for the chrome tip fork. The hole in the theory is the shifter bosses. Say what one will about pips for the pump, the der. or a few other contradictions; the bosses, the long stays, the 27" NOT so thin rims makes it highly unlikely to be of the Prelude ilk, the Col. types also. We all know that Schwwinn was mixed-up in the early-mid to late-mid eighties. Looks like a Mississippi frame. The Sugino crank, common as are those wheels for many Schwinns as a dowgrade for lesser models World Sports had 'em and other notch below better models too. Any point/feature could be answered by a counter point, an unlisted feature.
Why can't it be a 1987 Letour ? Even has a black SR stem. Just to look at the cat. The only two exceptions are the pump pip, not ther first time I've seen a frame lacking one, as for the rear der. ?? So ??

The Bike is a 1987 Schwinn Traveler. I own one and a 1988. The difference is the derailuers and shifters. 1987 had suntour alpha 5000 and 1988 had shimano light action. Both years had pump pegs.
