Took a solo ride out through Benicia and got detoured off my route by Sunday road work. So I headed out through Alhambra Valley and caught a classic car show by Les Shwab and then a pretty interesting barn sale. No bikes but lots of goodies- fishing, mining, antique toys. Two trips around my court got me exactly 40 miles.

15 miles running errands on my UO-8. Maybe it doesn't count for much mileage-wise but it wins points for vintage-ness. Or should that be classic-ness? (How do you know which is which?)

Just under 28 miles. Everything from super smooth downhills to a steep climb to gravel and all in the comfort of farm land. I encountered <6-7 cars.

Went out today with new 25mm Pasela TGs. Too bad they don't make the sidewalls out that TG stuff. Got surprised and trapped by a big hole at a kink in the pavement of the Paul Dudley White Bikepath along the Charles. Limped home. If the threads are cut like the appear to be I'll be shopping for a new tire tomorrow. Grand total: about 5 miles.

The Tour De California came near my usual loop ride this week on the SF Bay peninsula. I road over to the route around 12:30, climbed a couple miles up the same road the riders were going to ascend, and parked my bike in the redwoods after a steep hairpin. The riders came by about 30 minutes later. First five or six riders in a break-away group, and then the main peleton with Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer, and many other top riders. They were by in an flash, but it was exciting to see some of the strongest riders in the world whipping up the same roads we ride all the time in the Bay Area. One racer was jettisoning weight for the climb, and a Garmin team feed bag landed at my feet by the side of the road. I picked up the discarded bag as a souvenir, climbed back on my 1983 Raleigh USA Grand Prix, and finished the rest of my ride back to work.
22 miles for me for the day.

Started in Seal Beach. I finally persuaded my buddy to pull out his mid 90's era Simonetti from hibernation. We were going to take a short ride to Huntington Beach. I was on my '83? Univega Gran Rally (found on a neighbor's front lawn, free for taking) which he declared an overweight & obsolete POS. Got about 2 miles when his front tire exploded. Turns out the previous owner told him to change tires immediately as they were rotted & fragile. That was 2 years ago. Guess who had to ride back & get the car. Clear cool day with high winds. About as much a head wind I'll voluntarily ride in.
The Univega is now equipped with a 12-28 8 speed cassette and clinchers, replacing the stock sew-ups & 12-24 6 speed freewheel. Anyone who scoffs at old steel mid-range bikes should ride it. This is a beautiful bike that is a keeper. It's on Craigslist at an optimistic price.

I had today off, so took the Peugeot on a 30 miler around town. The wind was tough on the westbound but nice on the eastbound run. Some really stupid woman cyclist riding through red lights almost got killed.

Rode the Hennepin Canal, near my inlaws' farm yesterday. Trail is in rough condition, and it was freekin hot out for sure. I was pretty much spent after 50 miles. Rode my trusty, but heavy, Trek 950. I saw a lot of trail closed signs. SAD....

My second ride in IL today. Weather much improved, as well as the condition of the trail. So I took out the much lighter Prologue for this one. Most of the riding was on the various sections of the Illinois Prairie Path, along with the Fox River Trail.

No pics, but I did a quick 15 miles after work today, just to test the knee. This is the first time I've ridden since I crashed 2 weeks ago Saturday. The Pog was undamaged, but I took 4 stiches in the right knee - saved the bike 
.
It felt good to be out and about again, even if I was a bit wheezy.
I pulled the stitches out last Tuesday (much to my spectator wife's dismay) and was ready to ride then. Damn rain storms.
I've got ER pics, if anyone wants to see 'em. Go ahead - you know you wanna.......
Waiting for the doctor - the pic doesn't do it justice, that hole under the knee cap is at least an inch deep:
